: Need help with 2 questions on brake lines

I just finished my power disc conversion on my 64 and have a couple questions.

First, I bench bled the MC. What is the best method to bleed the new lines that are completely dry without introducing air back into the MC? It seems like it will suck air from the lines back into the MC especially the 3 other lines that arent being bled.

Second, how much clearance between the lines and the headers do I need to avoid heat issues? How hot can brake fluid get before there is a problem?
Thanks guys.

1. When I did my install, I bled the master, installed it, then gravity bled the entire system. When I did the same kind of install on a friends camaro, I had to rebleed the master cylinder.

2. This is a good question. IIRC the wet boiling point of DOT4 is about 300*F and DOT3 is about 280*F. Your headers will usually run around 300-400*F at the flange depending on engine, header materials etc... I would aim for about an inch away. This being said, I have my proportioning valve in the stock location and my one of my header's primary tube is basically touching it. I have driven the car hard in turns and done alot of road "carving" and have never noticed a spongy pedal.

Thanks for the info. To gravity bleed do you just crack open all 4 bleeders at the same time and let gravity do it or do you have to move the pedal at all?

Just crack the bleeders and maintain the fluid in the master cylinder. It is my preferred way of bleeding a new system but it can take a while.

Sometimes helps when gravity bleeding to pump the pedal a couple times at the start to get the fluid moving, so it doesn't sit so long air bound.

Another vote to air bleed.

To avoid making a mess I use hoses from the bleeders to small glass jars. Do not reuse the fluid that runs out, it will carry any contaminants with it.

I vote for the speed bleeders. I've only used them once but had great luck and you don't need a helper!

thanks for all the ideas guys. I will set up 4 bottles and tubes and try to gravity bleed the system. I also bought 4 speed bleeders that I will put on after gravity bleeding and bleed again. thanks
