I just put a custom gauge cluster into my 66, I pulled out the entire dash to do so.
I unbolted te steering wheel from the dash and let it hang. ater getting everything back together, it seems my wheel freezes when I accelerate hard.
anyone have any Ideas what would cause this?
all the power steering is ok(belts,fluid ect.)

I can't think of why it would do that, even after dropping the steering wheel. The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe the power steering belt is slipping badly at high rpms. But even that shouldn't happen if it wasn't doing it before. One more thing...how much steering do you have to do under hard acceleration?? Does it lock hard, or just seem stiff?

no, it really locks up(as if no power steering)
I didnt mess with under the hood at all though
all I did was move around the collum from the inside
I was thinking maybe Ive got it too tight or in the wrong position?

I bet your engine is torqueing over and the headers are putting the steering coloum in a bind. This happened to me.

When you raise the hood and rev it up- what does the engine do? Does it try to climb out of the engine compartment?

No I can see through the cowl hood that the motor is still in place.
It has to be the steering collum, im gonna pull it back apart tomarow.

When you dropped your column, the shaft to the steering box under the hood moved around. Check it out. Possibly you have torn the rag joint or the pot joint apart allowing the steering shaft to touch the engine.
