Casting # 3933198, no date codes. Did Winters not date code there intakes? I was showing the whole engine to a friend, to help him with his 375 clone. The first thing he said was the intake was wrong. I have had this engine since 83, when I totaled the car it was in. It is a 4 bolt main block, all date codes on the componets jive (have not pulled v/covers), stamped KD. I was the 3rd owner of the car, both previous owners claimed to have never done anything to the car, but run the crap out of it. Is this intake correct? My books show it fitting Vettes and Camaros 427s? Any ideas?

not sure on the big block intakes, but Ive got a 62 340 hp intake. I was told the date is cast under the oil splash shield under the intake. jim

Totally wrong for a Chevelle, go ahead and send it to me, I'll pay you back in aluminum pop cans so you can recover your value....
You'll be wanting a 3963569

I do not think the BB Winters manifolds had a splash shield, but the date is on the bottom of the exhaust cross over like Jim said. I have one from a 69 Nova L78. If I remember when I wake up I'll take a photo and post it.

The 3933198 intake was used on the 1968-69 L-88 Corvettes and the ZL-1 engines. It is a very desirable intake and would probably sell for $500 or more on Ebay if it is in good condition. Since it doesn't have a date it may have been an "over the counter" intake. The Engine you have would have came with a 3933163 intake.

What would you estimate the value of a 3933163 intake to be? I have thought about selling mine but would want a fair price for myself and a buyer.

My 1969 factory installed 163 intake has the date cast into the bottom. No steel splash shield in '69.

Correct, the 163 would be the right intake for a 69 L-78. The date is on the bottom of the intale, so it can't be seen when installed on the engine. Depending on the date, they are worth between $125 (for the new ones), and about $300 for an early 69 date code, like Jan-April.

As a side note or follow up to the Bill's post;

I believe the term "New Ones" was/is a way of referring to the ones that came on later crate engines or sold over the counter at GM (not sure of exact date when they switched, 80's?) with the snowflake located in front of the carburetor pad, as opposed to the original version/design which has the snowflake on the number one cylinder intake runner located closer to the head to intake mating surface (see photo of reproduction).

Bill please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I only mention this because they are reproducing the '163' intake now and it may cause some confusion out there.

Reproduction of original '163'.

Back "in the day" (early '70s) I owned a garage business that specialized in high performance work.

Customers used to bring in their L-78/L-72/L89 cars, and want the intake changed to an Edelbrock C427X. They most often didn't want the old intakes, so they left them with me.

As they got stacked up, I tried to get rid of them. No luck. I had a bunch of them taking up space.

I ended up selling the high-rise 163's for $10.00 a piece, and the flat aluminum intakes off the '70 LS-6 engines for $5.00 each. I remember I even had to GIVE AWAY the last two of those flat intakes, just to get rid of them.

This was around 1974-75.

Can you imagine?:(

OCD kicked in, pulled intake after Church. Date code 10.31.69, so somebody lied to me. On a bright note the heads do match the rest of the engine, or maybe note the L-88 or ZL-1 heads would probably be worth more. LOL. Philip, if you decide to turn loose your intake, I might be interested, depends on how things are going at work. It is day to day right now!! Thomas
