I've seen some discussion on this forum about using specific masters with a certain bore size to increase the effectiveness of the manual brakes.

I don't recall the specifics. Hopefully someone will chime in or you can find it in a search.

Found a couple:

I just did a conversion to manual disk brakes and did not have any luck with a 1" bore master cylinder. The pedal ratio on my 68 did not allow the master to move enough fluid. I've got a 1 1/8" master cylinder on there now and it works fine. Different years may have different pedal ratios. My 68 had a pedal ratio closer to 6:1 while another car I own has a pedal ratio of 5:1 that works fine w/ a 1" bore master cylinder. A lot of the conversion kits (like the one I used) include a 1" bore master cylinder and it may work fine if your pedal ratio is correct. If not (like on my 68) the pedal will be very spongy and feel like you haven't got all the air out of the system. A higher pedal ratio has less stroke, but more mechanical advantage so it requires a larger master cylinder to operate correctly.
