Hi guys,

hope someone has an answer to this.

I installed a Covan's dash with Autometer Ultra Lite guages about a year ago.
Everything worked fine 'till about a month ago. After powering up the car and driving along the water temp guage starts bouncing up and down. The max temp is reading fine, but bounces back and forwards.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks:thumbsup:

Sounds like a loose connection to me.
Start at sending unit and make sure connections are tight.

Probably a bad ground at the sending unit. You didn't install the sending unit with teflon tape did you? A simple test would be to use an ohm meter to check continuity between where the wire clips on and the engine block. You also should have solid grounds from the engine to the chassis and body.

I will check this.
did not use teflon tape, but loctite liquid teflon.

Thanks for the tips.

That is probably contributing to the problem! The sending unit needs a solid ground to the engine. Electrical sending units should be installed dry. Also, make sure your engine-to-chassis grounds are good.
