i don't normally look at this kind of stuff, it's usually clapped out, and a mess, but this guy always has very clean stuff, and as i think jake elwood said, it's got cop engine, it's got cop suspension....seriously, this car has a 5.7, and all the heavy duty stuff they put on the law enforcement cars, and it's got the hose out floors. the reason this car caught my eye was, not only the heavy duty stuff, but that it doesn't seem to be all drilled out for cages, radios, lights etc. i'm thinking it might have been a detective car, not a cruiser, thus the low milage. almost like a modern copo car. i don't think it will ever be worth anything, but might be a cool freeway flyer, for the right price...

They're cool cars. It would make a good cruiser and have decent power with an lt1. I think they'll be worth decent money in the future for a clean low mile example. Have you looked into bc4 police optioned camaros?

For some reason I've always wanted an lt1 roadmaster wagon....

Bill, those are claimed to be the best police package sedan ever made. That is a good score. They usually have oil coolers and tranny coolers and all heavy duty chassis parts too. A little tint, a new steering wheel, a console unit and some tunes and you're there.

Don't be surprised if that car brings a fair amount more money than you think.

yeah, i've thrown a little $ at it, but i expect it to get past my budget quickly. i know there is an underground of people who dig these cars. i doubt it'll be coming my way... my wife was already looking for carpet, i told her to hold on till we find out if we really own it...

9C1 cars are usually all beat to hell from duty use. I think you are correct in assuming that this is a UC car or a detective's car. Could have even been a 9C1 issued to a fire department. Good luck getting it. It would make a great cruiser. They are pigs (no joke intended here) when they are stock, but give it a little love in the performance department and the wake up quick. They are also very heavy (IIRC over 4K lbs), but that makes for a very stable highway car.

Also, take a look at the location of the rear wheels in these cars. They are not centered in the wheel well. Purely to make it look right, I would buy the control arms that center the wheels under there. Its just something that most people dont know about these cars.

Whew...a caprice, I saw the thread title and was thinking a Mustang. Joking aside, these cars drive real well.. My brother had a 96 Impala SS and, yes it was heavy 4000#+ but a good ride, not too firm or too soft. Definetely a strong market on these in the crowd that puts 24" wheels on them. Good Luck!

I thought this was a fox mustang thread as well

these cars are mucho cool! there was a guy running one at armdrop live here in canada. It must have had 5.13 gears. Took everyone off the line and ran 11's. It was a PURE sleeper:thumbsup:

That car was used as a patrol unit. If you look at the center between the front seats, you can see where a console (Probably a Joto Desk type) was mounted. Also the front seats (both) have severe wear where the passenger and driver were wearing gun belts. You can see the wear pattern. Also the stereo was removed and there are screw holes for the Mic holder. The rear seat is vinyl. I bet there was a plastic seat insert that was used. The rear was removed and the plastic was slid in in place and the cage that was uses was the clamp on type. In the trunk is a piece of wood that is used as a radio mount as the antenna wire is left in place and the other side has the fire extinguisher bracket mounted to the floor for easy access.

If anything, I would say that it was a sergeants car and not a patrol officers unit as it does not have the abuse of day to day war zone usage. I do know out of all the 4 door patrol units on the roadway within the last 18yrs (minus the police package Tahoe) the LT1 police caprice is the fastest and best stock patrol unit out in a long long time.

It is a nice car and if you can keep the fun pedal off the floor they get good mileage and will last a long time.

(Can you figure out what I do for a living;))

The cops have found us!!! Were all screwed now! It was only a matter of time:D:p
I guess when thats what you drive all day you know what to look for. Officer Kevin, I see you are from southwest Florida...where about in southwest Florida?

a 5.0 isn't a 5.7? The 5.0 should be a beefed out 302, 5.7 is 350...

Did i miss something?

edit:...oh. I get it. :D

I say good deal for $5,000. Plus you could easily mod the 5.7 in it. Pretty cool Ex. Cop car. ;) It even has police wheels!

My folks are selling their own civilian version of that car. It is white too but has a blue leather interior and actually has carpet. It does have the LT1 but it sure doesn't have the cop suspension! If it did I'd enjoy driving it more. It's been a pretty good car all around though, just too big for two 80 year olds.

Aside from the extra bracing that the 9C1 cars came with, you can convert all the rest of the stuff. 9C1 radiator, alternator and spring/shock setup and you pretty much have the same thing as the "heavy duty" stuff the real duty cars have.

If the cops have found us we better run :D:D:D:D:D. Hell I like looking at nice fast muscle cars, Why do you think I bought my Elky. Hey Will, I will give you a hint, it is where Hurricane Charley came ashore and went right up our harbor. Sent you a PM with the correct answer.:D

A lot of people see the motor in the caprice civilian model and think it is the LT1. Chevy made a very small V8 for gas mileage and it is based on the 3rd Gen block and IIRC a 4.8 liter engine.
