: Disc brake conversion 66 to 71 or 72

I did a disc brake conversion on my 66 Chevelle SS, I used my 66 A trays and original cross shafts, I purchased what I was told to be a 1970 Chevelle spindles, steering knuckles, backing plate and 11" rotors and porportiong valve. Since I'm doing a frame up there was no weight on the suspension and the tops of the tires tilted in and I have just one spacer on the cross shaft, I thought the weight of the motor and tranny would help the wheel angle, however after installing the motor and tranny the tops of the wheels still tilt in about 8 degrees and judging by the porportioning valve this disc set up is off a 71 or 72. Adding spacers will make this worse and I can't see how the weight of the body etc. is going to make this any better. Help!
Thanks Rich02

Could be frame sag, and if so you will need the frame pulled out. What is the measurement between the frame horns?

Could be wrong spindles, but it should make your wheels tilt "out" at teh top (with no shims) if they are 69-72.

I know a 65 Chevelle with stock upper & lower, using 95 Caprice spindles will make the wheels tilt "out". This is the tall spindle swap.

Can you post any pictures of your spindles? I thought Stock Chevelle rotors were like 10.?".

The distance between the frame horns is inside 29" outside to outside 35 3/8". Spindles have a # Cast in them D-6151. I have pics but I dont know how to post them on this sight, I could e-mail them to you.
Thanks Rich

Did you already tighten the bolts at your bushings? If they are too tight they won't allow the car to settle to its normal position, plus you still have quite a bit of weight off the front of the car with no body panels installed. You won't be able to get your suspension set until then. Your alignment probably shouldn't change much with the new spindles since you are using your old a arms and cross shafts if you were aligned before you removed them. Put the same amount of spacers in the same locations as before and you should be close enough to get it to a alignment shop once you get the car back together

I did not tighten any of the bushings, however I did not install the upper rebound bumpers yet. Could this be it? Or you could be right about the weight of the remaining parts.
Thank you Rich02
