I'm thinking of removing my power steering and going with a quick ratio manual from Flaming River. I got a good deal on a polished FR tilt column w/ slip shaft and vib-resistant u-joints. I have a Vintage Air Frontrunner on my sbc with the mullins pump and side mount reservoir. I can easily remove all that and run a shorter serpentine. This car will be cruising and street and may see 3-5K miles per year, if that. The only downside I can see to going manual is more muscle involved in getting the beast moving from a standstill. When the car was running (before the engine rebuild requirement surfaced), I didn't like the whining and churning of power steering anyway. I know the new style pump is supposed to be better, but it seems to be fighting to stay alive. Also, I'll be goind the Global West conversion next year but staying with stock height. But, as would be typical with my learning process, I'll retrofit manual steering and something bad and expensive will happen. And that is exactly why I bug the heck out of you guys all the time....
