: Time to lay the bird to rest
FourEightyNine Aug 25th, 09, 11:33 PM Well from the looks of it this will be Tweetys last season as the terror at the track. I have wanted to build a real race car for quite some time now but I havent been able to pull the trigger of cutting my chevelle all up. But as some of you know I have got my hands on another A-body that I dont care as much about and all of my race components will swap right over to.
I will leave the cage and what not in the chevelle as I built it how I would want any of my cars to look. It will get the 350/ODtrans/12bolt out of the monte.
The monte will go through a hefty diet along with a 12pt cage, gutted doors, alum floor/firewall/dash. Body will be welded and or bolted to the frame. Now that I dont have to obide by the rules of the street I should be able to take some serious weight out. I am going get it to a minimum 2800lbs.
Here are some pictures of the beginning process.

FourEightyNine Aug 25th, 09, 11:36 PM Sure is hard to find a picture of a race monte carlo though. About the only decent picture I could find.

Sorry no backhalve I like the looks of a small tire car. Although I think I can fit a 33X10.5W if I clamshell the frame. Thats the biggest tire I would want though.
It was in the back of my mind yes.
Dave Aug 25th, 09, 11:45 PM You think you can get a Monte down to 2800?

I had a 66 mustang for four months then sold it because it was too small. Got the chevelle right after. I've had the chevelle since I was 16.

ive had the nova since i was 13 but im determined to cut that sucker up and make it a fat tire car at one point  its got too many little things that were done to fix bodywork and such that would need to me done again to consider making a really pretty car out of it :(
mattiepschevelle Aug 26th, 09, 12:46 AM Awesome! I love montes in drag trim!
OutCast Aug 26th, 09, 1:14 AM Whatever you wind up doing, Brian, I'm sure it's going to be one nasty ride. You haven't disappointed us so far.

Yeah I am shooting for next season as far as making passes in the car. I dont think it will have a hood or bumpers though.

The first one I think I can get away without but only time will tell there. Yea I think the second will be mandated though. From the looks of it, if I can get the weight to where I want it should be capable of high 8s N/A.
Just wanted to say thanks to are supportive of this, I know this is a big undertaking for me to do right now. But someone people in the group have shown me that when you want to do something you just have to go for it. Thank you very much TCNW....heyy maybe the monte will be the TCNW car it wouldnt look bad with some big ol logos on it.:D

;) :D
High 8's!?!
Jim_D Aug 26th, 09, 12:16 PM Did you say 2800 lbs or mean 3800 lbs? My car is 2828 and is a tube chassis car. Can't imagine a non back halfed car let a alone a full framed car with all those heavy body parts and frame getting to 2800 lbs but I guess anything is possible.
Good luck.

Fat Tire Aug 26th, 09, 1:52 PM Jimmy,
That's because you have all that extra weight from all the buffing compound making it so pretty inside  You need sun glasses just to sit in that thing... And you tease me about show poodles :p .... My 68 Chevelle is pretty ugly I know... But with only one battery and the NOS bottle out.. tips the scales at 2280-2290... Yep.. We weighed it with the both batteries, full fuel cell and full bottle.. Combined weight was 2320...
You either go pretty or light ... That's my motto...
Although... my 69 has full doors with glass, Both Seats, full dash with glove box etc., carpet and sound deadener, The hood is fiberglass but doesn't weigh much less then metal with the scoop and thickness of it...Plus those big heavy useless tires on there... ;)... and it would raise an eyebrow or two if I was to relinquish it's true wieght... But she's my girl and every good man knows not to tattle about his girls weight... :p
kettbo Aug 26th, 09, 2:57 PM Brian,

2800lbs thats without me in it Jim. That will be over 500lbs less than the chevelle is right now.
And.......Taz with me in it is 2740#
If I could get that I would be estatic.:D But in all likelyhood not.
FRYNTYR Aug 26th, 09, 10:22 PM Maybe Tweety needs a little 427 and some laughing gas once the 489 finds it's new home.

66 Buick Special Aug 27th, 09, 11:51 PM Are you going to pull all the glass and replace it with Lexan?
That should shed a little weight.
Plus you might be able to sell it.

Here, just read this opportunity I trust trading platform (http://myfxadvice.com)
It will eventually have lexan im not sure if that will happen by next season though. The doors will be gutted as much as possible though as well as the quarters.
Im gona have to make some serious progress pretty quick though. I will be out of the country for a couple weeks looks like in Nov.
