yeah, i know it was a made up term from the marketing dept. one of the most successful campaign's in car history, but definately made up. i'm going today to see a 78 cordoba today. 44k original miles, sitting in a retirees garage, cadet blue, this thing is supposed to be clean, clean, clean. he wants 3k (high nada is 3.3).

i know this isn't really a muscle car, but my dad had one, and it was one of the best highway cars ever. my kid lives 3hrs. south of me, and i think this might be a nice road car to do those trips. with the 400 these things only make like 180 h.p. but over 270 lb. tq.

what i remember as a kid was these cars were pretty tight, they didn't float like other big cars, my dad's had fairly large sway bars. my dad loved the fact that it more than kept up with the euro barges we saw on the way to vegas or other freeway trips. when i was young, my dad had all kinds of cool cars, tri 5's, and various other great hot rods, but he always like his cordoba, i think it was the first time i saw a tear in his eye, the day he sold it.

anyway, i'll be seeing one today, and see if it's what i remember, or just romantic memories....

You can probably tune it up and get back some performance. I worked in Chrysler's engine development group back and I remember how sluggish those cars were. My Dodge van came with Corinthian Rubber floor mats.

A buddy of mine in town has a 76 or 77 cordoba with the 360. It's a decent ol' ride but I think it has around 8.0:1 compression and some VERY tall gears.

I owned two Cordobas.

My favorite of the two was my Pewter Gray Metallic '78 with an electric sunroof, "Lean Burn" 400, and light gray "soft Corinthian leather" interior.

It was a pretty car.
Actually handled surprisingly good too

I learned to drive in my Dad's '76 Cordoba. 400 lean burn engine. It was deep maroon with a white half-vinyl top. Had red cloth bench seat/column shift. Nice car before the rust got to it.

They're just B-bodies underneath it all. I'd agree with ya on 'freeway cruiser' status- comfy in the front seats for long drives. Not so much in the back seat though.

I also liked the Miradas that came out in the early 80s. I'd love to build one of those up someday.

A friend of mine picked up a nice and clean low mile Cordoba for $1200 and he loves it. Drove it to the last cruise and had the ac blowin cold. :D

We had a 77 as a family car for a while. I loved driving it. Was great on trips with a full load of baggage and kids!:D
But it was the ugliest shade of yellow with an odd tan colored leather interior, sorry Corinthian leather interior!;)
Thing had a great stereo system for a factory unit and about every option I think you could get! Power Moon Roof. Even had a euro style luggage rack in the trunk lid!
Traded it for a 78 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon with a 5.7 diesel! Full size wagon that got 27mpg!

my first car was a 78 Cordoba with the 4 barrel 360. light green with a green interior- with red doors that had red door panels. it was like a huge rolling watermelon.
it wasn't fast, but it would smoke the right rear tire at will, and that's the most important thing to a 16 year old gear head. it also used a ton of gas, but it was comfy. that green Corinthian Leather interior was like riding one of those fluffy couches that are way to comfortable everywhere. i remember sitting really low in that car.
i also remember it being way too floaty and with way too much play in the steering. i got a set of 225/60/15 or so Goodyear Gatorbacks somewhere and put those on the front- that stiffened it up a lot compared to the 235/75/15 Desert Duelers that were on it when i got it.
one of my friends had a 76 Plymouth Fury2- which was essentially the same car. my 'Doba was way nicer than that thing was. it was even cooler than the 78 Thunderbird that another one of my friends had.
dammit, now i want another one of those cars.

When i bought mine in 83 a friend had just sold the lady a Dodge van because the Cordoba had quit driving she said the trans was out.
I offered her 500 bucks for it and towed it home. Put in a battery (they put the new one out of it in the van) and started it. She was right, it would not go in gear but it felt funny in the shifter. Crawled under and hooked the cable back onto the trans shift arm and it worked perfect!:D

They're just B-bodies underneath it all...

Except those front and rear anti-sway bars on the Cordobas made them handle rather nicely for the kind of car they were.

I also liked the Miradas that came out in the early 80s.

I had one of those too.
1981 Dodge Mirada, triple white.

The only one I've had bigger was a 1969 Chrysler 300 2dr HT with a 440 TNT engine and it was a 4 speed car! Could kick myself for parting it out! But it was rusted bad around the windshield!

Wow- a factory 440 4-speed 300? Man..that's a cool ride. Bet it's a rare one nowadays too. In '69 that TNT 440 was 375 hp..!

I will say for a boat that old Chrysler would get up and go!
If I only knew then what I know now!
The engine and trans wound up in a Superbird with a broken wing and some dents made by the cows that shared the lot behind the barn with it ! The guy bought it off a farmer for 1000 bucks, said the farmer took off for the house with the money like he had just robbed him! Clear title too!

well, i saw it at lunch, it was a clean ol car, but had a crease down the drivers side, and no goodies, no leather, no t-top, no sun roof, 318 2 brl car, had some really hard cheap tires on it. it will make somebody a nice ride, but didn't do anything for me....

I still remember the commercials, "This could of been a smoother ride in a Cordoba" lol Ricardo Montalban. He should of had Tatto in the car with him.

Lol, a friend of mine had a 1979 Lincoln Mark V we used to take snowboarding. That thing was huge, but with the weight it actually did just fine in the snow!

It wouldn't happen to be dark brown, would it? My Grandma and grandpa had one, and I remember my grandma scraped the drivers side of the car backing out of the garage. It was a low miler when the family had to get rid of it because my grandpa passed and my grandma had a stroke and got Alzheimer's...

sorry to hear about your grand folks. this car was cadet blue, it did only have 44,000 miles on it, and now that you mention it, it is probably how the car got that crease, by backing out of a garage....

Back in the day my mom had a 78 Magnum GT I think it had Corinthian "leather". It did have a 400, it was traded in on a 80 Mirada both had the "T bar roof's". Even today I still think the Mirada is a good looking car.

Check the trunk and make sure the leaf springs are not coming through the floor. I remember having to help my friend weld a pathc in the trunk because his springs came throughthe trunk floor.

Other than that - it was a cool car.....

I liked those as well . My grandfather had a white one with red interior and I think a red vinyl half top. It has been awhile since I seen one but weren't they about the same size as a Monte Carlo ?
