Sunday, my bride and I, along with about 6 more friends (and we ran into a group of about 10 more friends while there) went to Grants Pass and went down the Rogue River on a jetboat which is owned by Hellgate Excursions. While it is a bit expensive ($57 per person) it included an 'all you can eat & drink' dinner at the halfway point.
You get to see the beauty of the river, Hellgate Canyon where many movies have been made. (McKenna's Gold, River Wild, plus a bunch of others.)
The boat is a jetboat powered by either two or three 460 Fords (depending on which boat you get on) and we were on the three engine boat. These are all flat bottom boats that only need about 10" of water to go.... and they go fast! The 'driver' would do the 360 spins at speed - drenching everyone in the process. If you don't want to get wet - don't take the trip. Lots of wildlife (osprey, beaver, otter, deer and such). After the dinner, you return upstream to the dock - and the boats get to play. One of the other boats would pass us and we would fly through the wake which would drench everyone... our 'driver'- as well as several others - were annoyed by a customer that had a whistle that he kept blowing. The offending party was allowed to almost pass our boat when we turned and the rooster tail drenched the guy! (and everyone around him... ha!) All in all, it was a great trip, decent food, and a chance to cool off in the 90 degree weather.
I would recommend this as a must do if you ever visit the area.
End of commercial.
