Are they the same as the hoses for the stock steering box? I have access to some PS hoses from a stock steering box, but I plan to install a quick ratio box.

TIA, Kevin

Go Here (Tech reference) (http://www.chevelles.com/techref/tecref29.html) and take a look but I dont think so.
Easiest way to do it would be take the Piston, screw,& shaft from the late model box and install it into your older box

I put a quick ratio steering box from a 78 Trans Am on my 70 and hoses worked for me. No problems and it's been a year smile.gif

Here is a good article and parts list.

I used an '86 Monte SS box, followed this article (along with help from elcamino72 and Jim Shea's TechRef article) and it was an easy swap, and looks stock. Gotta love the General's interchangeability, and the ingenuity of 'hot rodders'!

Red 70, how's the effort feel on that box? Does it have a good firm feel to it, or is it one of those turn with one finger boxes?

MikeM...

I used to run the 78 Trans Am box, but recently switched to a new AGR setup... Steering feel: Night and Day difference...

With the 78 Trans Am box, I could "one finger" turn, even with my 265/50/15 tires up front... With the AGR, thats not posible... Much tighter and better road "feel"... A little harder to park, but really not too bad...

I ran the TA box for 8+ years, and it started to bind "over-center"...

Same pump used too and same suspension (no changes other than the box)...

As for this post, the hoses will depend on the year of the quick-ratio box used... The 1978 TA box I had used the same Chevelle hoses... I had a newer (96 Caprice) that required the Lee Manufacturing hose seats (adapters to use the old hoses) or newer hose fittings... These boxes also require the newer rag-joint...

With the new AGR box, I specified it with the old-style hose fittings AND the old rag-joint size...

Unfortunately for me, I forgot that I had previously changed the rag-joint for the 78 TA box, so I had to get one anyway...

Thanks for the info. I had a box like that felt like that(way to easy to turn) on my Camaro. It really wasn't much fun on the street in the corners. You were constanly trying to correct yourself.

The basic jist of it is that you can keep the o-ring setup by getting the metric PS pump fitting and valve off of a new GM rear-wheel drive vehicle (something in the mid-80's).
