: Engine builder feedback
usnavyame70 Aug 24th, 09, 10:46 PM Hey guys. Well I am finally getting ready to install my cam and heads on my 383. I do not have a few of the tools required to do the swap and called a few builders in the area. Auto Truck services in Everett can do the swap for about the same price as me buying the need tools and they know what they are doing. Is Auto Truck Service a good place to take my motor?
Thanks Matt
gotago Aug 24th, 09, 10:53 PM See if you can make a deal with Darryl and stab it in at the Berg BBC emporium. You'll meet some of the best people on the planet and have a great time learning stuff in the process:thumbsup: The only drawback is the NOS plumbing that will suddenly appear under your hood:D
Dave Aug 24th, 09, 10:53 PM I believe Darryl ,and the likes really like that place. I'm sure you'll get a reaction soon.
Mr. Monza Aug 24th, 09, 11:45 PM They are the ones who built Dufrains big block, the owner used to run a naughty donkey pro street Firebird (basically a pro stocker with a larger engine soaked in 'juice') with the NPSA and knows his "stuff"
primernovaben Aug 25th, 09, 12:59 AM talk to doc and see what he is doing and if he is busy ask him or roger about auto truck service and ask them who to talk to about getting stuff done cause two motors that came out of that joint were not "as advertised".
usnavyame70 Aug 25th, 09, 6:23 PM I would rather have someone assist me in the installation but i do realize not everyone has the time to do so. If anyone is interested in helping please let me know. I am alittle concerned about a letting a shop do it.
Jim_D Aug 25th, 09, 9:32 PM As some of you know I have been using ATS for years. They have done everything from stroking my 350 to a 383 in my 1990 Chev 3/4 ton P/U, building the short block for my 68 Charger (semi race motor), re-did someone's crap work and fixed my 604" methanol engine, installed gears, spool and axles in my Dana 60 and finally, built the short block and then assembled the engine completely that is in my Chevelle.
As you can see there is a time line here that spans many years and I knew Jeremy's workmanship when he worked at Goodyear in Monroe (lot's of years ago).
So, I will say that they have worked on most of my commuter cars and race cars and never have I had a problem. Could an issue happen with a customer he had? Sure. In most cases it is a lack of communication that causes bad words to be said.
You can take my word that I have complete faith and trust in ATS. If I thought there was a place that could have the same workmanship and PRICES, I would go there.
If you want it done for a good price and you don't have the tools or expertise, take it to ATS or maybe a member here can help you out.
One last thing..... That 383 that they stroked and put a bigger cam into....Everybody said it couldn't be done. ATS did it!
FRYNTYR Aug 25th, 09, 10:19 PM I believe ATS does good work but there may have been an issue with one person there with the issue I know of. I really do trust Carry and I've known Grant since I was 18 years old and trust his work as well. Grant and I both attended UTI in Arizona at the same time and did big smokey burnouts many-o-times.
Fat Tire Aug 26th, 09, 1:40 PM ATS is the only place I would take my stuff... What a lot of people don't realize is some of the other local shops bring partial work to ATS.. like turning cranks and such.. Not too many places to get a crank turned up North... i have done a lot of stuff through Myron Gemmer in Lakewood as well and his knwoledge is next to none also but he is pretty busy with running his new business he just opened up out front of his shop... Those two places are the only shops I would use... One thing to remember.. Motors are unpredictable... and we run them hard... Most failures are caused from part failure not the machine work..
ehjorten Aug 26th, 09, 2:35 PM I was just acquainted with a new to me shop in Kirkland; that I think from my limited experience with them and from talking with the owner and listening to his conversations with other customers, is a really good shop. Accurate Engines, Inc. in Kirkland. Give 'em a look if you are in the market for some work.

, from the looks of it you've done your research and haven't bought the cheap parts. I thought i did too, and my cloyes hex-adjust went kaput.
kumiteken Mar 31st, 10, 1:20 AM A friend of mine bought a # matching 69ss from another friend of ours and he told me about this engine builder. Then he visited the engine builder, who had pictures of my Dads Super Modified Dirt racing champ car fom years ago. The builder was Myron....my Dad had the only card out of dozens and dozens that did not have an engine failure, or any problem the entire season. Most guys were tearing bottum ends out after 3 races.
I saw that engine in the car flip 7 times at over 100 mph, we took it home, changed fluid, and it ran another 8 months.
These are 16oo lb, direct drive torque tube (no tranny) 5:88 monsters getting beat.....
My dad went to CA and formed a world of Outlaw Sprint Team, never had an engine last like Myrons........
FRYNTYR Apr 4th, 10, 3:24 AM Sounds like Myron Gimmer
