well i finally want to order my v45 rear from vintage wheel. ive seen some people fit a 17x11 with a 315x35 tire under there 1970 chevelle without cutting anything. if u have a bit tire under your chevelle let me know what u have. im ready to order mine. should i do the 17x11 or 17x9 1/2?

I'm sure you will have to (at the very least) roll the fender lip to get an 11" wheel under there.

I am not so sure. I have seen quite a few 70-72s with 17X11 & 315 tires, and some owners said no rolling or clearancing... But pretty tight...

A 17x11 with a 315-35 is almost the same section width as 295-50 on a 10" wheel because the 17 has almost no sidewall bulge and the 15 has considerable sidewall bulge. They both will measure right around 12.5" +/- depending on the brand of tire used. I have both and have had them for many years on several different vehicles. Go with 6.25" backspace on the 11's. I have even seen 6.5" bs but it was tight on the inside because on stock 68-72 A-bodies you have right around 7" from the hub mounting surface to a contact surface on the inner wheelhouse and/or frame.

Stock suspension? A 315/35 on a 17x11 with a 6" bs should no problem on a '68-'72. You shouldn't shouldn't have to trim or roll.

I have a 285 tire on a 10" rim, section width about 11.22". I have room, however did rub a bit and had to massage the inner near the tailpipe.

You will have to be dead on with measurements for BS and hope that it does not rub.

My tire sidewall to outer fender lip clearance varies .25" from L to R side. I'm sure no car is perfect either.

They advertise a 1" drop, but will settle another 1/4" or so.

well my car is off the frame so i will center it before i measure it for the back spacing. vintage wheel workrs either sells a 9.5 wide rim or a 11 inche rim.

17x11s with a 315 and a 6" backspace is what we have done as well.

Here's the only issue I have with running this set up, the tire is SHORT, and I'm not a fan. I would rather run a 17x9.5 and a 275/50/17 and at least get the right height in there which is a 27.8" tall. To me, the right height tire is just as important, or quite possibly more important than necessarily the "widest" tire I can shove in a wheel well. Something to consider, and with your Hotchkis kit only lowering your car about an 1", be prepared for wheel well gap galore.

For any more help with VWW, and a tire and wheel package, feel free to contact us. I'll send you a PM too.
