Hi Everybody,
I'm a Team-Camaro regular, but my son is looking for an El Camino to buy. We've found one, but I don't know if it is a real SS, and I don't know what it is worth. I'll add a trim tag photo, but not the VIN since this isn't our car yet. Is it a real SS? The owner says it runs fine, but we haven't driven it yet. What do you think it is worth? Please fire away, pictures are below.

no it is not a SS. The only SS thing it has from appearances in the hood. I am not even going to venture a guess on what it is worth, It is quite dirty everywhere under the hood and I see a not so clean underside from what little I can see. Something funny happpening in the front grill, it is not sitting in there right for some reason.
The exterior color has been changed from original sandalwood to white, it has some strange looking pin striping on it that does not appeal to me. a/c car missing the a/c. Ok, I will venture a guess depending on how it looks rust wise underneath, somewhere around $3500-$4500 at tops if the floors are solid and no bondo is apparent in normal rust areas and it runs good.

Does it have the rectangular sweep speedometer or the round one? If the round one, does it have gauges? If so, what's the tach redline?
It has a cowl induction hood, look above the accelerator bracket for the inner door actuator.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not an SS. Wouldn't matter much anyway without any documents and it's a small block car.
It looks like something someone found and spiffed up a bit. That paint job, especially in white, could mask many problems.
Get it on a lift. Look under the car at the floor pans behind the cab. Are they rusted out? Any rust?
Dependent upon the answers I say $4,000 to $7,000.

FWIW, it reminds me very much of a '71 El Camino I bought for my oldest son in 1997. It was white had the emblems and cowl hood. Even had the buildsheet. The owner tried his best to convince me that it was an SS but it was just a big block '71 El Camino.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. The owner says it was his brother's car and he doesn't know anything about it. He inherited it when his brother died. He's only asking $4,500, so assuming it runs and isn't too badly rusted, it may be worth it even though it isn't a true SS. It has a good look to it, and if it is in pretty good overall condition, we'll still consider it.

I appreciate the help!!

I would walk away from that one for $4500.

Up here you could by a pretty nice non SS elcamino between $4500-$5500.
