: Opinion, what would you do?
ls5-70ss Aug 23rd, 09, 9:56 PM Bought a completely intact 72 SS, matching # 350 in the trunk. Blue, no stripes, black int., col. shift, bench seat, F41., 3.31 posi, non ac, tach and gauge car. Problem ,the body is shot! Needs both quarters, fenders, full floors, trunk pan, and the top is rotten around front and rear glasses. Was not expecting alot, only gave $750! What should I do, rebody or find another 72 and move parts? What would you do? Thanks, Thomas.:D
cuisinartvette Aug 23rd, 09, 10:16 PM Unless you own a body shop or are a talented metal man Id sell it off and look for another .
adscott Aug 23rd, 09, 11:13 PM Did you always want a numbers matching 72 SS? Were you planning on doing and comiting to a full restoration? If so then sounds like you got your project. If you do not have 30K plus to sink into this ( just throwing that number out there ) and just want a running 72 SS then maybe you can find a better one for a few thousand.
Jeffry72 Aug 23rd, 09, 11:51 PM Even though this is an SS, it's not a super desirable one. Sometimes the parts are greater than the sum. I would part it out and some might even go so far as to sell the the vin # and tag along with the title. I would not try to to save it as that would be a money pit, been there done that.

:noway:
Jeffry72 Aug 24th, 09, 11:11 AM You're right John. I don't advocate it and have never done it. Unfortunely I've seen it done so many times I guess I just included it in my reply as what some might do. This from a guy who started life as Horace Schnidt.
fyrlt1 Aug 24th, 09, 12:09 PM If it were me, and I didn't need to recoup my money right away, I would hang onto it until such time that a more restorable example is acquired. I would then use it as my personal parts car before parting out the rest. You may not want to sell parts now that you may need and can't readily find later.

That's how I end up with all my crap. I've held onto 25 years of stuff thinking just like that :D
2k3Chevelle468 Aug 24th, 09, 1:41 PM Part it out. Good rear, dash, F41 components and decent seat cores could make a decent profit.

x2...I'd part it out.
1ATony Aug 24th, 09, 1:54 PM Man sounds like you've got your work cut out for you. I'd love to say bring it back to life, but sometimes it cost so much to restore what you want you're better off buying it already done.
Eh it's tough one.
ls5-70ss Aug 24th, 09, 9:14 PM Thanks, for everybodies input. I was already leaning toward pulling the parts and saving for another project. Might just wait untill I find a nice 72 convert. and make a nice clone. I have never and will never sell VIN or Data plates, do not want to see someone get taken for a ride, just so I can make a quick buck. Thomas
