: Tie Rods and Zerks....reverse them?

I have seen this in previous posts doing a search...now I can't find it. New PST front end...on the tie rods, the inners have the zerks on the side, while the outers on the botttom. The set I took off, the inners had been hitting the oil pan, actually dented both sides....previous owner actually took the inner fitting off and left it open. So I suspect it will most likely do it again. Yes, from an alignment standpoint, I would suspect soemthing could be "adjusted" a bit. Though prior to taking them off, the car appeared to run straight as an arrow with no pulling or tire wear.

Question...why not just reverse the rods? Inner to outer and visa versa? They look identical to each other than the zerk fitting and I would imagine the thread to spin on the coupler.

Thoughts?

That will work just fine.

Thanks Rocky...any other insight by anyone else, or just swap away?

I should have been a little more explicit in my explaination. It makes no difference really, you turn the sleeve one way it get longer, you turn it the other it gets shorter.

Most peoples rule of thumb to determine the outer is the right hand threads go to the outboard side, other than that it trully makes no difference, everything will work just fine. switch away and you will have no problems what so ever by doing so.

The originals had a 90° fitting on the inners, but it was much shorter and less bulky than what you can get today. I have found the same problem on mine. What I do is just use a straight fitting and then all I have to do is turn the wheel to get one side lubed, then turn the wheel back to lube the other side.
