: Freezer Drain Line ????????

I'll try to explain as briefly as possible. Kenmore refridgerator/freezer, standard model, freezer on top, no ice maker. I purchased new maybe ten years ago and has always been in basement as second unit. The drain line for the freezer accumulates ice and freezes up solid. After drain line freezes over the unit continues to defrost on a regular cycle. Ice builds up in the freezer and eventually gets to a point where the defrosted runoff goes down into the refridgerator portion which gets everything in the refridgerator wet. At this point the freezer must be disassembled and hot water is dumped down drain line until all the ice is melted and then flows freely. Put back together and unit is good for 4-6 months and then freezes up again. I thought maybe this was happening because the unit was maybe out of level. It is almost dead on level so that is not the problem. The drain line is sealed between the inner fiberglasss portion of the refridgerator and the solid sheet metal back plate. It is not accessable. There is a small access plate at the rear on the bottom to get to the motor etc. when that is removed the bottom 3 inches of the drain line is exposed. Anyone have any ideas how to remedy this?

My Kenmore fridge-freezer did the same thing, turned out to be the timer on the defrost cycle was bad.

Brad,
Ours has done the same thing a few times in 30 years :) It has always turned out that the drain line was clogged up with "junk" usually right near the top. Had to completely disassemble it to get it clean.
