I have a '67 El Camino with manual steering. The steering box has a lot of play in it (you can rattle the pitman arm end side to side) and I'm thinking that after 36 years and 150k miles it could probably use a rebuild. Is there any place that offers rebuild kits or rebuilt steering boxes for manual steering? I'd rather not convert to power steering unless I have to. Thanks.

I know there are a lot of posts on rebuiding power units. I have a 67 that I want to convert to fast ratio in the near future. I have seen where guys have purchased rebuild kits for the power units and done it themselves. Do a search on power steering and you should get a lot of hits.

Did you adjust the backlash on top of the box

That is a pretty simple procedure.

I've found lots of sources for ps box rebuild kits, but have come up short finding anything for my manual box. Was hoping someone out there knew of a source.

When looking the other day for Power steering stuff, I ran across this website...

I didn't look too closely, but they said they have manual steering boxes in three different ratios.,.. Not positive they have Chevelle, but I think so...

Year One, part #QR74, $205 plus a $75 core charge. Shipping will probably be expensive, as you have to send your old one back to them. Have you checked with NAPA, Auto Zode, Advance and those places?
