: what's a ballpark guess for those who have started from scratch?
70eddie Aug 21st, 09, 2:21 PM i have a 70 chevelle and i'm wondering what might it cost to get my interior done.... now i know it all depends on where i go for that parts and how i want to really take it. but i'm starting from scratch and want to have an original SS interior from the floor shift set up and all. has anyone done this to their chevelle and if you don't mind can you please let me know what i'm in for $$$$$? i'd like to shoot for the best since i'm only doing this once. any help would be greatly appreciated.
texasgilbert Aug 21st, 09, 2:26 PM Are you doing the work yourself? If so you can get seat covers from Legendary for about $500 and door panels for another $400. The headliner and carpet cost about $100 each. So if you do it yourself you can get away with about $1,100 or more, depending on quality.
70eddie Aug 21st, 09, 2:37 PM i wish i could but i don't have enough experience with doing it my self. so i'm probably gonna find a shop that can do... i'm in san antonio so if anyone knows a good place lmk. i would like to keep it below 2k if i that sounds right but i'm not sure what to expect so i don't want to take it somewhere and have someone take me for a ride on the price.
animal69 Aug 21st, 09, 2:44 PM I don't think you can get it done for $2K. That might cover the labor. At least that's what they charge around here. I think they may have joined the plumbers union.
texasgilbert Aug 21st, 09, 2:47 PM I think you can find someone to put the seat covers for $500 or so. Maybe $100 for headliner install. I think you can do the door panels yourself which would just leave the carpet. Maybe a little over $2,000 but not much.
70eddie Aug 21st, 09, 2:52 PM that's good to know...i was just wondering. i appreciate everyone's help. this car has become a huge $ guzzler! but i'm not taking short cuts so it's going to be worth it to me. i figure doing it the way i want it the first time cost less then going back to do it over and over.:D
hpsherlin Aug 21st, 09, 2:55 PM $1100.00 is about right for all the interior new pieces.
$1800.00 is what a local interior installation shop charges.
Total $2900
I installed myself and saved the $1800.
I had another local told me that she could have made the seat covers, headliner, and door panels and installed them for $1100.00 total.
Shop around and get references......and call them.
1969 El Camino Dan Aug 21st, 09, 2:56 PM You should try to do the seats yourself. It is a challenging job, but certainly very much in the realm of a decent mechanic. The strato bucket seats are much easier to work on since the back is a removeable hard panel. Worst part is getting the seams that recess the seat from the side bolsters.
I've got pics on PicasaWeb of my job. The sticky on here is good info, too.
If you need console parts, that's gonna cost you. Carpet installation is something you should be doing, too.
I haven't done my headliner, but I'm going to give it a go after I get the surface rust cleaned out and put POR-15 up there.
Take a look at my blog about upgrading my el Camino interior - I did the dash pad, too.

You may be able to do more yourself than you think, just as others had stated. I decided that I wanted nothing to do with covering the front seats of the headliner so I paid someone to do those. The seats cost me about $300. Headliner will be another $300. You can definitely do everything yourself...just do some research and ask lots of questions. One thing that helped me a bunch is when I went to car shows I found as many cars like mine as I could and took detailed pictures of every inch of the interior so I had good reference photos. Save the dough and do it yourself!!!!!
1966_L78 Aug 22nd, 09, 1:23 AM Our site sponsor (and MANY other suppliers) offer PUI seat covers and door panels. About $300+ for front buckets and rear bench, and another $300+ for "assembled' door panels...
great quality...
blm Aug 22nd, 09, 11:23 AM but i'm starting from scratch and want to have an original SS interior from the floor shift set up and all.
Need a little more info. Does this mean that you have a complete interior and it just needs redone? Does this mean you need to acquire some of the parts such as console/shifter/seats/seat belts etc? How about the dash does that need redone? Could vary greatly depending. Even if you have all the parts and are willing to do all the work yourself you are in the 2k visinity. Need some parts you don't have add 500 or so. Need a complete interior maybe 4K-5K. You will be suprised how much needs replaced or redone whem you get down to it especially if you want to be thorough
cuisinartvette Aug 24th, 09, 1:38 PM Figured a delux interior kit and probably a few hundred in unknowns would get me there.
I stopped counting at $3500. Only paid $275 for the labor I farmed out, rest is just parts/materials/small stuff. Thats on an Elky, too.:clonk:
Oh wait, all new glass, need weatherstrip, etc. Bet it hits if not exceeds $4500. Every single thing is new though. Gauges, wiring, stainelss screws, etc etc etc.
