We went up to the hills on fathers day, and that kind of decided it for me that I would like to find a truck. Well I kind of passed the word around, turns out their may be a 56 SNB pickup in my future! All I was told it its a project and needs everything. (my kind of truck). Been sitting in the backyard for years. So the el camino is back up for sale to fund the truck project.
I figure with the stuff I already have.... a rebuilt vortec headed 350 on the stand. Choice of M20 or TH400 for a tranny (th400 came out of the chevelle and works), Got a 3.31 12 bolt that I can cut to make a leaf spring rear. I think I even have a set of mid 50's 5 lug hubs to fit the spindles. Just need the drums. A set of ralleys with the disc caps, big and little tires and I can get the seat done for around $250 bucks!
Just hoping the truck isnt all that bad. And I even got a call on the elcamino! I just have to make sure I dont sell it before I check out the truck! jim

Arizona hills? Looking at old trucks?

That sounds like a vacation to me!
Even if it needs 'everything', in your region it will still be in better shape (all things considered) than one from around here. In the rust belt, needs everything means something different - it will require a foundry worth of sheet metal, and an advanced scientic test lab capable of reproducing the molecules of the original vehicle that were long ago vaporized by rust.
I have a pathetic '51 truck project sitting in my driveway that is so rusty a strong wind can collapse it into one of those cartoon piles of dust. I would have been better off freighting one from your area.
I say go for it. the '56's are nice to look at even when they are waiting to be re-done.

It sounds like avacation, except for the 3rd degree burns you get from touching the truck that has been baking in the 115 degree sun.

Well, Im batting 1000 today (sarcasm) turns out its a 56 longbed 3/4 ton. For the age of the truck it was really nice. BUT, its still a long bed and I would have a hard time explaining to the wife why I just bought a truck and Im cutting it in half. The thing had the visor, 235 six banger and granny 4 speed. If I went for it, Id just end up keeping it stock. But I think Im going to pass on it. Had a guy interested in the elcamino, turns out to be a no show, then lastly a guy wants my ralleys off the el camino, again no show.
So in the end I still have the cash, the ralleys, which is on my daily driver. And I still own a big block el camino. And as soon as my thin set sets up, I'll have the last tiles down in the living room, so the day wasnt a total loss. Jim
