Going to paint my kick panels with SEM .
Do I need to primer, original is Turquoise?
Should the panels be Satin or Gloss Black?

Thanks,
Jack

I would go with couple of coats of Landau Black Search it at VinylPro.Com.

Prep is key, make sure you clean the plastic very well. I like to use denatured alcohol before I spray the vinyl.

Not sure if landau comes as "gloss" or "Satin", but I think gloss would be too shiny anyway...

No "primer" needed, but I did get the SEM Vinyl/Plastic Prep, and their "sand free" prep... I guess it was cheap insurance... the "prep" takes the place of a primer, giving a good surface for the paint to adhere...

I usually wipe things down first with laquer thinner, but NOT always the best for plastics...

I actually washed the parts well with soap and water first (and a softer nylon brush, to get in the grain), than after they were dry, I used the "sand free" and "prep" as directed and sprayed the panels... Most of my panels were Black or Dark Green, and I sprayed them "white", and it covered quite well... I sprayed the dash face with landau black, and it turned out nice...

The landau is the one you want, it is a satin and pretty much dead on to factory look.

SEM Landau Black is right on the money. In addition to the prep work, I shot a coat of self etching primer before the topcoat. Still looks good 11 years later.

Just get a can of Bulldog Adhesion Promoter at O'Reilly's and use it on there first. Then SEM Landau Black SEM PN 15013. Read the instructions on the Bulldog spray can.
