: Worthless without pics :-( 23 car barn find
THEBAD Aug 20th, 09, 1:26 AM Ok, first I know this thread is worthless without pics, but my friend who is a doctor seen a lady in his office yesterday and they got to talking about old cars...it seems this lady has a number of rental houses and one of the deals they worked out for rent with a individual was delivery of his old car collection for a place to stay for a number of years. Anyway this happened a number of years back so anyway to shorten the story this lady has 23 old cars stored out in her machine shed where her and her husband lives, I know the shed its only about three miles from our farmhouse, and actually borders one of our farms. Anyway these cars are from 1900 to 1930 vintage and she asked if he would like one of the cars and we could come look at them anytime ...Supposedly when they received the cars they were museum quality. Other than that I don’t have a lot of details...We are going to stop by this weekend and find out more as well as take a lot of pictures.
I don’t even know if there is a market for cars of that vintage, I don’t know much about them but do know one is a 1913 Maxwell that is in great condition. Here is a link to what one actually looks like. (http://www.classiccar.co.nz/articles/1913-maxwell-tourer-toad-of-toad-hall-206)
Does anyone on the site have any experience with this era of cars ?
Lastly I know this thread is totally worthless without pics.....Just wanted some ideas on this era of car before we go looking....
RixLS6 Aug 20th, 09, 6:03 AM I have some friends that know about that era of cars.
Can't wait to see what turns up at the farm. Show pics with descriptions of each car if you can.
mingles Aug 20th, 09, 7:50 AM I have to admit, seeing as you're from Iowa too, this has me wondering whereabouts this is. Not that I have any interest in the cars, but more of a "interesting to me because its in Iowa" thing. I'm in eastern Iowa.
As for the find, that sounds awesome. I know nothing of that vintage though. I can only assume top dollar if they are in fact in "museum quality".
Now what top dollar is, well that's another story. Good luck though.
MJRIBEIRO Aug 20th, 09, 8:18 AM I just got back from Pebble Beach and cars from that era can average 100-300K or even much more at the big name auctions, depending on condition, rarity, and historical significance. Time is running out though as the generation of collectors interested in that era are dying off... In the end it still sometimes comes down to a popularity contest. A RR Silver Ghost may still tickle the 7 figure mark. Early Packards are still hot...
rak1 Aug 20th, 09, 11:22 AM I LOVE old cars and would really like to own a 1930's Ford Model A or T truck.
Highway Star Aug 20th, 09, 11:32 AM I want to see some pics!!!!
fishhead Aug 20th, 09, 12:31 PM We have a resto shop...
Would be happy to see what you come up with...
Our basement is actually full of old parts from 20's to late 60's...
See my sig...:D
oktunes Aug 20th, 09, 4:36 PM Could be some top dollar cars, like Cadillacs, Dusenbergs, Studebakers and other expensive American companies, or it could be some Chevys and Fords. If they are all nice original or restored cars, they all have value. The big cars are worth a lot more then the run of the mill Chevy's and Fords. One 1926 Chrysler or Stude roadster or touring car could be worth more then 5-10 Model T's. Pix would sure be nice to look at! Iowa weather is condusive to no rust!
Late BrakeU2 Aug 20th, 09, 5:01 PM And with a whiff of the news the sky suddenly turned black, and like a swarm of locust they descended upon the area in search of brass car $$$..........
1badss396 Aug 20th, 09, 5:07 PM i want to see some pics!!!!
x2 pictures!!!!
Malibulvr Aug 21st, 09, 12:05 PM Can't wait for the pics, love seeing these cars out in parades and fairs around here. Seems as though the cars owners are always almost as old as the cars themselves.
Jim Rohn Aug 24th, 09, 10:55 AM sounds like the start of another urban legend hoax ...
oktunes Aug 24th, 09, 3:14 PM It's a nice story, even if it is just legend!
bcmiller Aug 24th, 09, 5:26 PM OK, it's Monday and the weekend is over.
Did you find anything out or do you have any pictures to post?
rak1 Aug 25th, 09, 12:12 PM Sounds like another barn find story in somebody's mind... However still hoping for some pictures...

THEBAD Aug 26th, 09, 4:55 PM Sorry no pics yet....The lady and gentleman who own these cars were not available to show them to us this last Sunday.
For those of you that doubt me or my story....I could care less what you think, it jerks like you that drive many good people away from these boards or sharing anything in the first place. Treat others like you want to be treated,
bcmiller Aug 26th, 09, 5:52 PM Just want to see the pictures man.
Sounded like you were getting them on the weekend.
Whether people believe it or not is up to them.
bcmiller Aug 27th, 09, 2:23 AM I believe cars of the era you are talking about fall into the antique category. You might try to find some antique car message boards, they would probably be more helpful.
As for values, you can try this link. But you will need to know the make and the year.
