I want to coat the floor of my 66 SS with the ceramic Lizard Skin. Can someone tell me how much I really need to buy based on personal experience?
If you have a better idea for undercoating let me know your opinions.

One gallon will cover 25 sq. feet, according to this page:

http://www.lizardskin.com/pages/ceramic_application.php

It's shocking to see that they are recommending as much as 6 gallons on certain applications. At $80 a pop per gallon, that is quite pricey. They are very proud of their product.

Most folks around here would probably use an epoxy-based coating, as I see that recommended more than anything. As for me, I would be slapping a couple of coats of POR-15 on it, and if you want it to look nice, go over it with a coat or 2 of POR-15 Chassis Coat. I know a lot of people are pensive about using POR, but I can attest to it. I bought one quart and covered the entire floorpan, top and bottom, of a 1976 280z. I STILL had half a quart left. The pans had holes as well, which I fixed by laying fiberglass and painting over it with the POR. I tried knocking a hole through it with a hammer and couldn't. The stuff is tough as nails, plain and simple.

I can attest to the POR 15. The entire bottom and frame of my 67 is coated with it. I have driven it 5 years and 39,000 miles all over the country. It will still clean up and look good.

I retract any advice I gave...I happened to glance through the photos of your shop and now I'm pissed at you.

The argument against POR 15 has nothing to do with it's durability or toughness. The question has to be wether it stops the rust from spreading where you've covered. If it doesn't what do you have?

Sorry if I hijacked a little, don't have any experience with the lizard skin.

I certainly don't disagree with you. I am not an expert on POR-15's ability to stop rust. However, my local body shop expert painted the rusty poles on his carport with POR15 when it first came into the market, which was many years back, and they are still as they were when he painted them.

Also, the original poster said nothing about rust, and Lizard Skin has no claims to prevent rust from spreading either, so it's not a factor I considered in this topic.

Again, I'm not disagreeing with you, and I'm not trying to start a flame war, haha.

:beers:

I just had my truck bed done with Linex and that stuff is pretty awesome. I was talking to the guy that installed it and mentioned that he has used it on car floors as well. I am looking into it and trying to find out if that stuff has any substantial sound deadening properties.

We did a 66 GTO and use 1 pail of each type on it and that seems like enough, so 2 pails is the answer.

Cool,
I am going with one 2 gallon pail of ceramic for the floor underside and I will use something else on the inside of the car and trunk. Any thoughts on what to spray inside the car? I don't feel I need the expensive Lizard Skin inside.

Thanks for replying to my posting, it definitely helps.
