I just got my car back from the shop and its been un painted for some 7 years with no emblems. I have had the car painted very nicely done. I went to put the "Chevelle by Chevrolet" on the bottom right of the trunk lid and I have more holes than than than the emblem has and the holes are much more spread out. Anyone chime in and give me your thoughts. I got the Emblem from Ausleys Chevelle, and dont think it is of quality.

Did 70 have different mounting holes than the 71 or 72? is the emblem just a bogus one?

The 70 trunk lid emblem is unique to itself. I believe it has 4 studs as well but not 100% certain. It's been a while since I put one on a 70. Is it possible the deck lid is from another car?

71 and 72 emblems were different than a 70. On a 70 by Chevrolet is under Chevelle.On 71 and 72 ,by Chevrolet is off to the right of Chevelle.

Thats it. I must have a 71-72 Trunk lid...thats *****ty to find it out this way(guess the original owner had a rear accident and found a 71-72 trunk lid and slapped it on.... haha

Makes sense that the holes are spread out ,because of the longer emblem.

What's up with your hood pin wires? They shouldn't be going through the grille like that.

Definitley a 71-2 deck lid.

Car looks good though!! First glance made me think of the 9 second "Lunati" Chevelle featured in HOTROD magazine years ago...

They go up on top and come out under the hood above the grill.

oh alright no biggie, take me less than 2 secs to fix. Other than that, i think the car is coming out pretty good for a 24 yr old on his own, and in his garage.

I was talking to my dad about it yesterday, and told him what happened and he reminded me of the swap meet we went to in dallas around 5-6 years ago and got that trunk lid cause the old one was toast. So it is a 1971 Trunk lid. I already have the stripes on my trunk lid, so there is no way Im going to repaint a 70 trunk lid to stay original. Im just gonna buy the emblem for the 71, thats the easiest and most logical fix.

Throw the '71 emblem on, alot of people won't notice, and who cares if they do.

Thanks, got the 71 on now, just the speed nuts are giving me problems and is hard to fasten them down with limited space to work with..

Now wresting with front bumper brackets..ugh.

At least it was not a trunk lid from a Buick Skylark, That might be harder to fix.

You can see here that the hood pin mounts to the wire and the wire is mounted to the radiator support as shown in the pic between the hood and the grill.
