: Are repop fenders really that bad?
Tod74 Aug 19th, 09, 2:00 AM I have heard bad things about repop fenders but wow...are they so bad that you would pay this much for GM fenders? How many would pay this much? Not debating just asking.

cobaltchev67 Aug 19th, 09, 4:13 AM The repops are not that bad....every fender has issues, be it more waves to smooth out or needing a little tweak here and there.
czeto Aug 19th, 09, 7:51 AM The repops do not fit good and take a lot of tweaking but at $2500 go to Sears and buy a big hammer. Everything will fit.
Lionel-n-Chevelles Aug 19th, 09, 8:22 AM Alex is right. The reproduction metal can be massaged to fit with a hammer and a block of wood.
Dean Aug 19th, 09, 8:34 AM They are not all the same, some fit and some don't.
It's a gamble.
Berto Aug 19th, 09, 8:54 AM the repops that we just put on the chevelle were nice, but the body lines were about 1/8 inch off. We had to pound on the inner brace and hammer and dolly the 2 body lines down about like I said previously 1/8 inch. they did come out nice in the end and the original fenders were wasted so I don't think there was much choice.
you can see the body work that we had to do on the fender.

DONTWANT2 Aug 19th, 09, 9:17 AM My repops were a fair fit. The body lines are not perfect, but good enough. They needed some extra love upon install but i would use them agin.
suprfreac Aug 19th, 09, 9:19 AM I just went through this about 6 months ago with my '66. I purchased re-pops which turned out to be unusable. When I say unusable, I mean, the guy who did the bodywork on my car said it would take at least 5k to 'massage' them to get them to work. When I showed up to look at how they hung and the stampings, they were atrocious. You could tell they were just stamped incorrectly and the quality control was extremely poor regarding the bends, lines, and how they were going to mate with the door and the inner fender.
I bought them from Matt's Classic Bowties and I was told to bring them back as people for over a year with that "batch" were all having the same issue. Since then, I've been told that some of the issues were figured out, but unless the originals are completely crushed, I'd stick with what came on the car. I guess it all depends what it would cost to straighten out OEM vs. getting the new ones to fit. I had the body guy just cut out the rust and straighten them out and I am very pleased with the results. I have/had a lot of confidence in him as it really wasn’t that big of a deal being he had done it dozens of times.
Hopefully someday, someone will reproduce an American made re-pop with some quality control and just charge accordingly. I know many of the people on this board are willing to pay the money up front for something you don't have to re-do because of corners that are cut because of price. Just my $.02...
Berto Aug 19th, 09, 9:27 AM we have cut just about every piece of metal off my pool ol velle except the deck lid and the cab.
repop 1/4s, door skins fenders and ended up getting goodmark hood. I wish that they had fit better, but without repops the project would have been darn near impossible.
smoke' em II Aug 19th, 09, 12:41 PM Todd, if you are looking for '70 front fenders, I was told that Golden Legion fenders fit the shape of the head lamp extensions pretty good. This was the problem that I had with the Goodmarks I purchased for my '70!
parrothead6970 Aug 19th, 09, 11:16 PM Just put a set of goodmarks on my 70. Had to do a little massaging top of the fender where it meets the door other than that they fit nice!
CRUZN69 Aug 19th, 09, 11:21 PM I was talking with Dick at True Connections last week and he had NOS fenders for a 70, only $600 each.
oldchevelle541 Aug 21st, 09, 8:28 PM Guys, since we are on the subject what are your feelings on Reproduction full quarter panels for 70-72. What would you pay for a NOS quarter if you could find one ?
Thanks
John

Tod74 Aug 22nd, 09, 12:39 AM I have a 72 not needing fenders I was just flabergasted that someone would pay 2500 bucks for a pair.
vegadan Aug 23rd, 09, 10:42 AM i put full 1/4s on a 70 and they were from goodmark and they fit as good as any gm would,i used to buy new sheet metal from gm for my camaros back in the day when you could and they never fit perfect
