: Globel West Upper Control Arms
Spawn22 Nov 18th, 03, 2:33 AM I am thinking about getting Globel West Upper Control Arms. My question is first they make two models one for stock spindles and the other for tall spinldes, do both have same performance? Second, Can I use any brake system of a donor car with a 11 inch disc brake such as a 1970-1981 camero with Globel west upper arms, or do I have to get the lower ones also? I am thinking about pulling a brake system off a donor car and I hope to use Globel west uppers to make them work.
Spawn22 Nov 18th, 03, 2:33 AM This set-up will be on a 1967 chevelle.

I already replied to your email...
Maybe Alan or Beaux will pop in here. I think Alan just completed his install...
Spawn22 Nov 18th, 03, 2:52 PM Tony I just replyed to your email. I was under the impression that if you purchased the globel west upper arms I would not have to go with different balljoints because the kit comes with it as part of the kit.
Spawn22 Nov 18th, 03, 3:21 PM I have been spelling "Global" wrong this whole time graemlins/clonk.gif
Alan Nov 20th, 03, 1:09 PM Hey Tristan,
Sorry for the late reply. Here's the Global West page I used to figure out what I needed Spindle Info (http://www.globalwest.net/1964-72%20disc_brake_conversion_informatio.htm) . If you're using 11-inch spindles and the GW tubular uppers this is what you need:
Part # CTA-47AP fits 1964-1967 new price $479.00 (poly bushings)
or
Part # CTA-47A fits 1964-1967 new price $569.00 (Del-a-lum bushings)
These are not the tall spindles a-arms. They will work with the '71-'81 Camaro spindles though.
The tall spindle GW a-arms I bought came with the lower ball joint. I would assume that's the case with the kits above. Might want to ask when you order. You can use your stock lower control arm with the '70-'81 Camaro spindles. I sent my lower control arms to GW and had them convert the oval bushings (one on each arm) to round and install the Del-a-lums, along with powdercoating the arms black. You don't have to go that route, I wanted to though.
So, what you need is one of the a-arm kits above and the complete 11-inch spindle/rotor/brake caliper assembly from a donor car. Depends on your budget, but I'd spring for new calipers, rotors, wheel bearings, pads, etc. Use the junkyard stuff for cores (calipers mainly). You might need a different front brake flex hose too. Except for the 12-inch spindles from a '85 Buick wagon, and Performance Friction Ceramic pads, the rest of the braking system up front was bought from GM. What's cool is just about any junkyard or parts house in the country will have a replacement if something breaks smile.gif
I think that answers your question. Let me know if you need more. I'll e-mail this to you as well. Ask Beaux how well my can handles with the GW equipment, and Hotchkis springs on the four corners. It brakes well too! Bumpsteer - what's that?
Spawn22 Nov 20th, 03, 7:17 PM Alan thanks for the information, I have also been looking at other company who offer Tubular Upper A Arms. I have not decided which company, but I have decided to go with the 12 inch disc brake set-up of a donor B style car. I will keep you posted on my decision!
canxlr8 Nov 20th, 03, 7:49 PM Ask Beaux how well my can handles with the GW equipment, and Hotchkis springs on the four corners. It brakes well too! Bumpsteer - what's that? Sounds sweet Alan, graemlins/thumbsup.gif maybe I can get a ride in that bada$$ Chevelle so I can compare it with my setup. I may need to step it up to the tall spindles also.
What size rotors did you go with the 11',12' or 13's.
Alan Nov 21st, 03, 11:14 AM Keep us informed what you go with Tristan. Global West isn't the only game in town these days, but I went with them due to their reputation.
Chava, I went with 12" 1LE rotors up front. Out back are 11" 1999 Ford Explorer discs. Next time I see you, hit me up for a ride graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Spawn22 Nov 22nd, 03, 12:18 AM Do to finance, I will not be able to go to the lower control arms so I will be using my stock. I am however excited to see the improvement and performance gain. I should be finishing up my rear end this weekend, came from a 3.08 open, to 3.73 with posi. I have also added a 1" rear swaybar, hotckis springs, edelbrock adjustable upper control arms, and KYB shocks! I think I should be able to be a import now graemlins/hurray.gif
I am going to order my tubular upper a arms next month, I am thinking about this company http://www.westcentralauto.com/chevelle.htm
