Did he sell his car?

Thanks guys, LOL Doc.

Did he sell his car?

Nope, I still have her, had a momentary lapse of reason.

I managed to fix the turn signals sunday, turned out to be real simple, one of the contacts in the switch assembly had fallen out, I re-bent it, put it back in, bam, signals again. I had taken it to Hi-Line Auto Electric in burien to get it diagnosed, they said Shorted Switch, Bad Brake Switch, bad fuseblock, I saw no evidence they'd even had the steering wheel off. (No new dimple where the puller nose would sit on the shaft.)

The trans isn't right, the cooler lines are munched, maybe thats it, but it's starting to slip, usually in corners (Low fluid?) or at stop-lights. I have a new dipstick to put in to make sure I'm getting accurate readings, the one I had was cut for clearance in the RX7 it used to reside in. Plus there is the Shifting out of Drive issue (Hard Accel, shifts from D on the column to second, not just the trans, but the whole damn shifter.)

Needs a tune-job, points and condenser shouldn't be bad but the wires are crispy critters, plugs are new from the oil change, suspect timing and dwell are wrong by the lack of power.

I'm slowly getting back to normal on this thing. Cooler Lines next, then I need brakes on all four, drums shoes and wheel cylinders. (Bleeders stuck)

THEN comes the Holley, Eddy manifold, and a camshaft, and maybe the 305 heads for good measure.

Happy birthday Jim!!

Good for you sticking with your car and figuring things out. Small victories can definitely help your confidence level....with time you'll have it all working like it should.

You don't have a broken motor mount do you on the driver's side? It won't be apparent unless you watch the engine while you torque it up. Not sure if the mechanics work right for that to cause it, but the driver's side of the engine will lift up pretty high if it is broken.

You can have my front brake drums, and all hardware, (nearly new), if I go to discs this winter.

I sense a roadtrip to Alger coming on this fall.

Time for bigger axles and a transmission go-through.

A neutral drop could likely cause this...

Thanks for the Offer John, I may have to take you up on it. Are they the 11 inchers or the 9 1/2? Speaking of which, are the two interchangeable?

I never would have thought of a broken motor mount causing the shift issue. When it does it, it can be VERY violent, like, the whole car shudders real hard, so that may be it. I keep hoping it's just the shifter itself but I can't see how.

It'd be nice to be able to fix the problem just by throwing a floor shifter at it and kill two birds with one stone. LOL

I'd have to measure, and I don't know if they interchange. But if they work for you, you're welcome to them and the hardware once I put on discs.

The car is starting to go fast enough to warrant a modest braking upgrade.

The car has long been fast enough to warrant a modest braking upgrade.

Fixed

I've had my 70 Chevelle long enough for a modest application of a uniform color and to get some good wheels and tires installed.

Now THAT is what I call FIXED!:D

If I'm lucky, this will be my birthday present (nightmare?) to me.

You guys will still be able to make fun of me for being the slowest and having the smallest engine, but at least I'd be upgrading from a swiss army knife in a gunfight to a KA-BAR in a gunfight.

I'm thinking Vortec-Headed L79 clone. Or a 302.

We'll see, I'll call tommorow. I think it may be a 283 though, he says 59-62 Impala and we all know that '62 was the first year for the 327.

Even if it is, it'd be worth it to have a backup block sitting around, 'specially if it has a Forged Crank.

I can pony up the money, you said fifty right? And thats with the Valve springs and the chain right?

I really ought to stop buying speed parts and not putting them on though, LOL. I've had the -929 Cam and those 305 heads and the waiting to be tanked for like six months, the Intake and Carb for a year... That wierd old Orange Q-Jet for like three years.

Every time I see that carb I wonder why I paid 10 bucks for it.

lol I would've bought it for 10$ too just for a cool paper weight if I wasn't going to use it haha

And yeah, 50$ gets the cam, lifters, springs, and timing set.

I called the guy with the 327, he still has it and it really is 50 bucks.:hurray: He's going to call me later tonight and give me the #'s, I want to verify its a 327, if it's a 283 I'd still be interested, specially if theres a forged crank in it, but still, much prefer the 327.
