Whats up with the seals being sold for the cowl induction air cleaner to hood. I compared the repo to an original and can't understand how they could get it so wrong. Yea it has the black tape on it but the lip that folds over the edge of the flange is on the wrong side. I tried to open the seam and turn it around but it wont bend and is short. So I stepped up and got a GM $62 and it's the same design, probably from the same manuf twice the price. Am I missing something? see picts, original on right. gary

It's really hard to explain without having the rubber seal in hand, but usually the new rubber seal is inside out. Try turning it inside out and hook the thin rubber lip over the flat ring. If the rubber curls in towards the carb, try turning it upside down. After a while you'll figure out the right way to install it. I bought a reproduction ring at a swap meet a while back that was already attached to the ring, but the rubber seal was so stiff you couldn't close the hood if you jumped on it. Some of those reproduction parts just aren't right.

Thanks Jon, I can get it around inside out. I Had to clamp it in 3 places. It is kinked in 2 places. Will put it in the sun and see what happens. gary

I was confused too until I found out that the seal was turned inside out. Once I twisted it around it fit correctly. Heck, The seal fit the ring well enough I didn't even glue the seal to the ring.

After messing with several different seals I took one of the better seals turned it inside out then put it on the flange. I left it out in the sun but it still had some kinks in it. I finally put a little slit under the black tape and blew air into it from a can of spray air like you would use on computers. Then I took a small amount of black super weather strip adhesive and sealed the hole then put the tape back over it. Took out the kinks and looks pretty good. The only problem is the rear of the hood will stick up a little so I have to push the corners down when the hood is closed.
