Is there a difference? I have two shift levers from non tilt columns and neither will go into the stub on the column on my '68 tilt. The end seems too pointy. I ground one down and it goes in but just flops around and "falls" out of park and has no detents. What to do?

I know the length and shape of the lever are visually different for a tilt column over a non tilt and have heard others say they're not interchangeable.

Any ideas on how they are different, or a pic? I'm stuck here.

there is a spring down in there that keeps it in the detent. Did it possibly fall out?
