Has anyone tried (and had any success) lowering the rear of a 68-72 Chevelle by cutting the "Pigtails" off the top of the spring and letting the open end of the spring set in the top pocket? Is this practice safe? Any drawbacks? You guys are terrific!! Thanks, Pat

Don't attempt that at all. How ever you cut it, you will not have a flat area for it to sit right. The top mount is designed for a pigtail anyway. It will not be safe at all
Get a set of Edelbrocks or Hotchkists. Check Detriot spring.
Btw. you're in LB, head up to Huntington Beach for a suspension shop. There is a bunch in that area.

I cut the pigtails all the time.....heat the next half the coil and bend it flat to make a flat spring end. You could also buy some 11" springs from one of the circle track suppliers. I am running Black Magic 11"/175lbs, probably a little on the stiff side for anything less than a part time track car but they also have 150lbs springs that should work well. I paid 70.00 with shipping for the pair.

sorry, no heating of springs to bend it flat. will cause spring temper to be lost.

Really....better call Herb Adams and Fred Puhn because their decades of racing automotive experience say boo to the no heat wives tale.

It's the same principle of anything involving heat and metals.....concentrate the heat quickly only where you want it.

Just buy a new set of performance springs and be done with it. I got a set of Hotchkiss for about 100 bucks. They are not that expensive for a set of four.
