Hey kroozers! I am a proud owner of a 65 chevelle. I'm thinking about lowering the front end about 2" to give it a little different stance. However, being a poor college student, i am weighing my options of how i can achieve this slammed look. I've looked into springs and spindles and have decided that they are a little more than i want to spend right now. What are your opinions on the little doo-hickies that JC Whitney carries...spring adjusters/stabilizers and coil spring compressor assemblies for lowering the front?? Are they worth the $15 dollars? are they safe? are they harmful to the suspension system? how will the ride change???? Any info is helpful...thanks!!

You can try cutting the front springs one coil. that will lower the car about one to two inches. its not the most desireable way, perhaps the cheapest. any really good front end shop can do this. remember you have to get the front end aligned afterwards. some people dont like to do this, but it will work if you dont go to drastic. two cut coils will really bring it down , but your ride will go with it. you probably wouldnt be able to get a good alignment and you would also end up with a ton of shims on your upper control and maybe not enough room to clear exhaust or the steering shaft.

PS I know one coil really doesnt affect your ride that bad. If you go any lower you may also have a problem with shock absorbers being to long.

My 2 cents is, try 1/2 coil cut- you can always go more. I did a full coil on a S-10 pick up and it was way too much. After getting the height where you want it, trim the rubber bump stop about 1" to gain you alittle more travel. Do the back too. Maybe try 1/4 coil in back.

You get what you pay for. If the suspension is sound and not all used up cutting coils is the better way. If the suspension is worn out save your money and do it correctly.

I did cut off a full coil on the Chevelle. Its went way too low. The tires started to rub!
