Last month my wife Sue and I made the trek from Spokane to the ACES NW Regional show south of Portland in Canby, Oregon. This is hosted by the Chevelle and El Camino Club of Oregon and they put on an outstanding two day show -- I've not been to a better one.
On Saturday morning Sue and I drove west for about 45 minutes west to McMinville to see Howard Huges' "Spruce Goose." I was expecting to see a big sea plane in a big, dark old hangar. Was I ever wrong! The Spruce Goose is the main attraction for the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, a three building complex that is ultra modern and extremely interesting.
I budgeted two hours to see the museum (wanted to get back for the poker run -- a full house with queens up didn't cut it) so I'll need to go back the next time I'm in the area to do justice to the museum. I really recommend that if you're in the area, or if you go to next year's NW Regionals, that you take the time to check out the museum. It is outstanding! The pix below are just a very small sample of the 30+ aircraft in the building with the Spruce Goose. I don't have a pix of the whole plane because it is just too big. :)
