I'm looking for some rear disc brackets that will utilize something more common then a 79 Trans Am rotor. I have 12" cross drilled and slotted rotors on the front of my 66. I want somethin 11" or larger for the rear. I cant seem to find anyone who has the cross drilled and slotted rotors for a 79 TA that arent a arm and a leg to buy. One company told me they would have to make them.
You might end up having to custom make some brackets, but that's have the fun right?
But seriously, you might run into some issues with brake performance if you run the same size or larger rotors in the rear as the front. You DO NOT want to be locking the rear brakes up first! Having said that, you might check out some of the corvette front rotors as they come in different offests over the years. But most are 1.25" thick and require a different caliper. That's about all I can think of for now...

Thats what I have come up with so far. A 12" rotor off the front of a 88-95 corvette. It has the same depth as a 79TA rear rotor. I think I might be able to get away with the 85 camaro front calipers in the rear with that rotor. I gotta check out the bracket situation though. The 85 camaro front rotors also come stock on a "thicker" rotor then those 88-95 vette ones, so I dont know. Its all trial and error. But it beat paying 8 to $900 for a kit that I can put together with better stuff from work for like $300

I use 95 camaro rear rotors and 78 camaro calipers on the rear with brackets I modified from afco, I just made the bottoms for them and drilled them out. I run an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear brakes to keep them from locking out. up front 69 chevelle rotors and 68 vette four piston calipers, car stops real nice

Hey ed, is there any way I could see some pictures of your rear setup? How come you run a adj. valve? I read on the MP brakes website as long as you have a disc/disc prop. valve you do not need the adj.

I can get you some pictures today hopefully. I did not have a disc disc proportioning valve so I put in the inline one and I liked the adjustability so I left it

No problem Ed, I actually came up with my own setup. I used axle brackets off a 97 Z-28. I used aftermarket slotted rotors from a 97 Z-28. I Used non e-brake PBR calipers and caliper brackets from a LS1 camaro. I had to shim the brake pads to make up for the difference in rotor thicknesses. I also had to machine down the axle bracket off the 97 Z-28. But everything looks like its gonna bolt up and work fine. The only reason I went with what I did, is because I work for an auto parts store and was able to get the stuff at a discounted rate. The rear brake setup will cost me no wheres close to what those "stock" aftermarket kits go for.
