: Distributer gear clearence
youngladd Aug 16th, 09, 9:32 PM Can someone help me with what the clearance should be between the gear and housing on a HEI.(there is a washer between the gear and housing, so clearance would be between the washer and gear) It is a stock bodied HEI. The motor is aluminum headed and the intake is also aluminum. (Smallblock, Large cap HEI)
THANK's

The Devil's advocate Aug 17th, 09, 12:15 AM This from IgnitionMan,
?It's called "end thrust clearance" or, simply, end thrust, end cleatance, end play. Set it between .015 and .020. Shims from a point distributor work on the early HEI, use what is needed. DON'T get the clearance too tight, it needs that .015 minimum. Feeler gage between end plate and gear is fine to measure the end play."

Milton

Dave gets booted off the site and now he has someone else post for him?
Or is Milton really Dave?
How many sites is he banned from now?
Anyway, how is Dave doing these days?
Tell him we said hey and hope he is feeling better.
The Devil's advocate Aug 18th, 09, 12:18 AM For the record, I AM NOT DAVE.
Dave reads this, and many other sites, and is a moderator on 7 other boards. Now, if you don't want Dave to help, I will stop posting his responses, that should cure/stop the help Dave has to give. He never has had any ulterior motive for posting, only the real one he's always had, he likes to help people.
Regards,
Milton
Dean Aug 18th, 09, 12:27 AM So how is Dave doing now?
Which 7 boards does he moderate on?
The Devil's advocate Aug 18th, 09, 1:07 PM Dave is still in the hospital, lung infection going on 3 months, doesn't seem to want to give up on trying to kill him.
He saw your sarcasm, Dean. He asked me to not post any info/help again, and I am going to honor that. He is my friend, over 30 years my friend, and I feel I know him a hell of a lot better than you and people on web sites do. I trust him far more than most, especially a lot of others on these, and other boards.
Doesn't matter which boards, he is helping there, and there are no user created problems created by others, unlike what he got here.
Anyway, it is said all things, both good and bad, must come to an end, and so shall this, right now. It's too bad people just won't let Dave alone and let him help others.
You be just as sarcastic as you possibly can, Dean, it just shows some here, a very few, just aren't worth communicating with. That is MY opinion, not from others I have communicated with in asking Dave for his help.
Regards,
Milton
Dean Aug 18th, 09, 2:20 PM Wasn't meant to be "sarcasm" :noway: I was just curious
Anyway, I hope he gets well soon and wish him the best.
