Ok in the middle of putting my new 3.73 gears on my new eaton posi carrier. The yukon installation kit 14067 comes with the 12 Ring bolts and red bolt lock. I don't know why there arent any lock wahers so im using the ones off the old carrier. Well I get them all in sung and go to torque them to 55ft-lbs which is hard to do just holding it so I put it in a vice lightly. And wouldn't you know the bolt gives resistnce then gives up. I take it out and the first 1/8" of threads are toast.

What gives? I am not doing something right? Are the bolts not the new ring gear bolts? Should there be lock washers? There were on the old carrier.

Please help my work is at stand still.

Those bolts were not made long enough for lock washers, that's why they supplied the red lock tight. By trying to use the lock washers you don't have enough threads making contact inside the bolt holes.

Well thats what I should have done. But I had been reading the article from chevypunch and they are using the same parts and kit and they said the new bolts are included and they say install new lock washers and use locktite.

Get a replacement bolt the same as the others and use just locktite or are the lock washers better?

If i get new bolts are they just grade 8 hardware? I can't seem to find them on a part store's website.

you did mess up, the new kits , at least for the last 6 months have had the shouldered bolts that use no lock washers. you need to either to reuse the old bolts, not me. or get the proper bolts again. i can supply you some if needed. tom

I have always used new lock washers on these bolts. They might have changed the length of the bolts and I didn't know it. Are these new bolts the same length as the bolts that you took out of the old differential? Did you get this kit from me?

the new bolts used in yukon's current 12 bolt kit use no lock washer. they are a different length. they have a 1/2" head and are not threaded the entire length. tom

Yea tom is right they are 1/2" and not threaded all the way I did get the kit from BGH I guess I should have paid closer attention. Should have asked questions before going ahead but didn't think twice about it.

I guess I need new bolts which sucks I only messed up one.

It's been a while since I put a 12 bolt together, so I haven't even opend one of the installation kits lately. I didn't know that they had changed the bolts. I've been doing a lot of 10 bolts and 8.8s. I can get you another set if you need them.

WEll you think i could just get a grade 8 same size as the old bolts and us them with lock washers?

Yes, grade 8 will work.
