I recently purchased a 1969 Chevelle. It is a coupe, and I am finishing up what I would call the shake down. That is, figuring out exactly what it is I need to do to this car, and starting that work. I am semi-handy, but not a mechanic by any means. As a result I will try and refrain from saying "do hickie" or "thingamajig," if you can try to bear with me please. I am learning as I go with this car, and this forum has been a pretty good tool for me to learn lessons already. It saves me from having to ask a lot of questions that really turn out to be simple.
Today I was working on the interior, I attempted to install door handles (on the inside, not the outside one. not sure what the technical word would be.) The individual I purchased it from had been been using locking pliers to release the doors on the inside (lazy.) Anyhow the new repro handles did not want to go on, and upon closer examination... the gear that the door latches sit on are stripped fairly badly.
Does anyone know what this part would be called, and is there any way to try and repair this? Or is this part best replaced completely, and who carries this part?
Thanks in advance
