: Day 1 of Pinks
Jim_D Aug 15th, 09, 12:59 AM My first pass was my best ever. 9.29@142 but the suck foot slowed down down from 1.29 to 1.31. We think the suspension is way too tight. We will work that in the morning,
I heard Greg broke but maybe someone else can chime in on this.
Don't know the other passes members ran but it was an adventure.
See ya all the tomorrow
66SSFan Aug 15th, 09, 2:18 AM Everyone is getting in new bests today, I think Greg was on a new best run too when something let go and waded up the driveline and took out the trans case:sad:
I won't steel anyones thunder, but I'll tell Dave he better be shooting for 10's to beat the Canadian!!
Mr. Monza Aug 15th, 09, 2:22 AM Both my passes had 1.33 60', 9.62, 9.63, Saw some pics people took of the launches, Damn it was hooking hard and high with the two turns up on the training wheels!! were a lot of spectators for a Friday, all entries that showed up were teched and got two passes, was a good day IMO!!!!!!!!!!!.

From what's loaded so far, some awesome cars there! They look a lot better than the ones I saw on Pinks earlier today on tv for sure  I guess the NW is just going to show the rest of the country how it's done :D
Man I wish I wasn't working! :o:(:sad::mad:
Princess Aug 15th, 09, 3:30 AM Since the Evil one is hogging the computor... I'll get my pics posted on the Picasa link late tomorrow night or Sunday...

66 Buick Special Aug 15th, 09, 12:57 PM As was already stated... the Special broke.:(
It came off the line hard, the front end came up, down, looked at the tach and instead of seeing it screaming for 7600 it was at 8,000rpm.
I knew we were on our way to a new best ET.
Hit second and the valves started floating looked at the tach it was still buried at 8,000... I lifted.. played with the shifter thinking somehow I shifted through 2nd and 3rd...
About the same time I heard something let loose in the rear and saw a small part (piece of u-joint) come flying out from under the car.
I pulled as tight to the wall as I could and coast through the traps.
The Emergency Crew were at the car before I stopped rolling. They asked if I was alright. I assured them I was.
The track crew towed me quickly onto the side of the return road and said the tow truck would be there in a couple of minutes. They even thanked me for getting out of the groove quickly. While they were towing me the driveshaft finally slipped out of "Dave's Custom Driveshaft Loop" and was brought to me. You'll se pic's I'm sure in a day or two.
Dave you're Loop performed beautifully!:thumbsup::beers:
PNB stopped and checked on me, Mike P. and my wife both checked in by phone to see what happened.
Tow truck driver was cool and said he had tried to get his S15 into Pinks and couldn't so he was working instead.
Everybody from Team Chevelle that was in the vicinity was there when the truck dropped me off. As always you guys Rock!
Your humor and support made it hard to be down.:beers:
Mike P. was even talking about pulling his '70 apart to get me back going.:D
Friends, family, and co-workers had showed up to watch me run, and I was bummed that I broke on my first run of the day...
What bummed me out the most?
I wanted to finish that pass and see what it would have run!:(
Thanks Mike P. for your help and the loan of the magic Weld Skinnies.
John it was awesome having you over again!:beers:
Tom won't read this but I want to thank him for helping with last minute help with the car and for volunteering to tow the Special to the event. Without him this would have been a lot more difficult. He took the car with him last night and will drop it off Sunday at my house.
But now... we need to head to the track for Day Two!!!
Later!
1966malibu Aug 15th, 09, 1:31 PM I am sorry that went down Greg :(. But I know how you are and the "Special" will be back stronger and faster .
gotago Aug 15th, 09, 8:16 PM Greg, sorry you broke but glad you are OK:thumbsup:
Hope you get her back on the track again soon!!
Dave Aug 15th, 09, 8:43 PM I'm glad you are OK, I do have that TH350 under the stairs, it's yours for the taking.
That, and some parts from yours, and a few bucks, will go along way at Jim Alex's, I bet.;)
I'm feeling pretty good about the DS Loops, two driveline fatalities, two successful containments.
66SSFan Aug 16th, 09, 2:23 AM I was honored to be your crew chief Greg and heart sunk when the Special broke! I'm sure it was going to be a great run, shifting from first gear only and braking the car and rolling to a 13.0 was impressive:thumbsup:
I had a great time and it was a good experience, you all are a good bunch of people to be around.
