northernforce Aug 14th, 09, 9:33 PM What a loss-hate to say it but the Camaro is probably cut up by now-I live about 40 minutes from the reserve and trucks and cars around here get stolen all the time-taken down there-stripped-or joy riden and then burnt-these idiots don't know what they have-think its just a 69 camaro-doesn't matter if you have GPS/onstar or whatever-neigbour took his family out to dinner last december-his truck was stolen(had a plow/sander on it)cost him 7k out of his own pocket to get someone to cover his contracts for plowing till he got the insurance resolved-another friend was ice skating on an outdoor rinkwith his kids and the Indians stole his balzer in broad daylight-he say it go but had his skates on-it was mint-found it burnt 3 days later-sorry for your loss Pete!Keep on cruising-Dave.
dyno jonn Aug 14th, 09, 9:38 PM Big time sux. Petes a good guy too.
COPO Pete was on the way to a race in Canada when it happened. His wifes truck was stolen a while back and found burned on or near the reservation too. I'm thinking someone knows who he is, what he's got (copo cars) and has been following him around waiting for this. That sucks even more cause I like seeing him with that Camaro at the Pure Stock Drags at Stanton every September. Not very likely he will get the car back if the history of stolen cars in that area is any indication. :(
66 L78 ragtop Aug 14th, 09, 10:22 PM This crap is happening way too frequently...Because of the legal system, all we can do is sit back and hope that it doesn't happen to one of our cars...
I say its time to be proactive and establish sting operations at major events. Instead of trying to chase down the scum bags after the fact, we should lure them in, allow them to take the decoy back to their home base and surprise them with a calvery.
This may not just put the POS behind bars, it may also help to recover other stolen cars/property.
I bet that these malicious acts are not random. These acts are calculated and involve a host of people across many states. These guys are targeting major events where high dollar cars are likely to be present. Just recently 4 Oldsmobile 442 and W-30 were stolen from hotel 4 different hotel parking lots.
Its getting to the point where I feel like a prisoner in my very back yard. I cannot take one of my cars out, park it and enjoy whatever event i'm attending without fear that some POS is eyeing my car with the intent of nabbing it once my back it turned.
Enough is enough.
It just seem that the good and honest people are getting the shaft more and more every day. If we are not getting taxed to death, some pos is looking to steal our property.
The more tolerant we are as a people, the more we get shafted.
Something drastic has got to get done!!!
GAGE 1959 Aug 14th, 09, 10:42 PM Yea it sucks ! But the thing i just don't get is it seems that all of these high dollar cars , trucks and trailers that are always being stolen, where is the burgler alarms ? Lojack, battery cut off switches, fuel cut off switches, brake lock switches ?
PaPa Johns 77 Aug 14th, 09, 10:49 PM Then add the fact that these cars are getting even more popular overseas and the big picture really grows!
Lots of people over there with deep pockets that are getting into the American Muscle Car collecting!
Dave Birdwell Aug 14th, 09, 11:19 PM They can take my trio, it's fully insured....
jfkheat Aug 18th, 09, 1:36 PM According to info on the Yenko site Pete got his COPO Camaro back. They said he offered a reward shortly after it was stolen and word got to the right people. Glad to hear this but it's ashamed that he had to pay to get it back. I'm wondering if his insurance company will reimburse him.

PaPa Johns 77 Aug 18th, 09, 1:47 PM Good to hear he got it back anyway!

You wont get any arguement from me on this. The problem is cops just dont seem to really care enough about this sort of thing to really do anything about it. Unless a comunity has such a major problem that they realize something really needs to be done. I have the unfortunate expierence with this first hand as I also had a classic El Camino stolen back in 2003 and the cops just took the info that they were required to take and that was it.
normie Aug 18th, 09, 7:27 PM This happens a LOT in Canada.. I know a few hardcore snowmobilers who have had entire rigs stolen while they were going in to pay for a gas-up/food/hotel..
It's the world we live in unfortunately!
