This information may be posted already, and I'll look further, but I'm getting new tires for my '71 SS Convertible with the Factory wheels, and I'd like to know the best way to remove the trim rings myself to minimize potential damage.

I use a flat screwdriver and carefully pry each clip apart enough to release it from the wheels. It also helps if you let most of the air out of the tire first because the pressure of the tire against the clips help hold the trim ring in place.
To install them, I first deflate the tire and using the screwdriver, apply enough pressure on each clip to slightly separate the prongs of it to allow it to slide onto the edge of the rim.
