For a 70 Chevelle with auto TH350. Got a floor shift steering column from a TC member but it has a "lever" for linkage to attach to on the engine bay side of the column(approx 6" past the firewall). This lever is shaped differently from the current column shift steering column. Is this the right column? What is this lever for? Do I need some different linkage(in the engine bay) for this? I already have a stock horseshoe floor shifter and cable. This "new" steering column doesn't have a provision on the collar(interior) for a column shift lever. Also any suggestions on how to do all this would be appreciated. Thanks Pete

Pete,
Wild guess, because I don't know how the clutch linkages are on the later velles. But, is it possible that the column is out of a 4 speed car and the extra lever is something for the clutch linkage? Just tossin out an idea.. Im sure someone will ring in on it

The lever was to activate the lock steering mechanism. If you notice if the lever is not fully up you can't remove the key from the ignition.

My '71 is a factory floor shifted car and it has this feature also.

Also the stick shift cars used the same set up.
