Just looking for advice/tip to improve the handling of ny 68 chevelle base model(but not for long) As near as I can tell everything is stock.
Theres a wimpy little sway bar on the front and none on the rear. Tha ass end sits too high for my taste. I'm thinking fatter swaybars for the
front and rear with 2" drop spindles for the front and make the rear the same hight as the front..somehow. I am very new to this so any info or sources you can lead me to will be very much appreciated. Thanks graemlins/clonk.gif

B car spindles, drop coils, Del-a-lum bushings, truck-arm rear suspension and 18". HANG ON that will rock.

using the search function in this forum will fill you with all kinds of ideas...factors such as budget and end use are important considerations.

My recipe for inexpensive yet effective handling improvements...use a 1.25 front bar off of a 2nd gen Trans AM, a 1.0 rear bar, poly graphite bushings, KYB Gas shocks, and some Hotchkiss 1" lower/higher rate springs, new steering parts if needed, quick ration steering box, and disk brakes. Good luck

Just installing the B-body spindles, 1.25" front sway, and standard GM rear sway (7/8") did a world of good for my car!

It would probably handle even better with stiffer springs and shocks, but I like the ride and it sticks to the road real nicely around the curves.

I think any bigger rear sway bar would make it want to slide too much during high speed cornering. It needs some cushion back there.

And don't believe the hype about El Caminos being lighter in the rear. That's only true if you have a lot of stuff in your Chevelle's trunk. Remember, El Caminos are a little longer and have heavier frames.

I lowered mine with Suspension Techniques 1" lower springs all around. The front was still too high and I cut about half a coil. It is about right now but I think I will go even lower. I do not want a lowrider but it can be .5" lower and look much better. I have not decided on the springs yet.

Regarding shocks, I have the KYB gas shocks and I find them way too soft. They are completely overpowered by the springs, especially on the front. The car has the "boat" feeling when it hits some bumps. I ordered the Edelbrock shocks which are supposed to be between the stock and very firm sport shocks. I want a comfortable ride but not too soft. For comparison, I am used to European car feel.
