The tall spindles are on the '69 Chevelle and everything looks great. There is a problem getting the right brake hose though.

The spindles and calipers are off of a '79 Caprice wagon. Rotors are 12". The brake hose goes upward from the caliper now, but if I remember right they used to go down from the original 11" caliper then up to the frame, making the hose a U shape. As it is now the hose would need to go up from the caliper, make an S shape then finish by going back up to the frame. Also, I'm not sure what hose has the correct fittings on both ends. I found a suggestion on the internet of using a hose off a '78 Olds Custom Cruiser, but that doesn't have the correct hex-shaped connection at the frame, and is a couple of inches too short anyway.

I really don't like the S-shape hose idea. I think it should be a U-shape (maybe upside down U). Is this right? What do I need to do?

Thanks,
Ken

Ken, I recently did the tall spindle conversion on my 68.
I had got the spindles, new 12" rotors and new calipers in the deal. Make a long story short I didn't use the calipers I had gotten. I used calipers from a 70 Chevelle. The inlet that the first calipers' hoses were angled at had the funky S shape. If your original calipers are good they will work.
With the 70 Chevelle calipers I used hoses from a 69 disc brake Camaro. They also fit the original brake hose brackets on the frame from my old drum brakes.

The hoses I used are DOT approved braided stainless. They were just a few bucks more then the standard hoses from a local store. They came from The Right Stuff. Dave is the guy to turn me on to the Camaro hoses. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Same as above, I used the Chevelle calipers. If I remember correctly, the hoses from a 82-91 Camaro is about 19" long and may work. It was either try those hoses or go with the calipers that I know would work so I went with the calipers.

Thanks for the replies. I have retrieved the '69 calipers and will try them on the tall spindle this weekend.
