: They found my Land rover.

I got the call tonight. It was found in the parking lot of a Walmart in Federal Way. They say it looks "operable" whatever the hell that means.

I just hope my daughters softball gear is still in it and it won't cost me to much to replace the ignition, re-code the alarm and change the door locks.

I am really happy they found it, but I'm afraid it is still going to cost me a ton. Let's see how much it costs to get it out of impound tomorrow morning.

Good deal! Yeah...let's hope it was just joy rides and not too much damage.

I have a friend in the Federal Way police dept. Hopefully I can talk them into reviewing tapes over the last month and figure out who took it.

That's awesome Kyle, I figured it'd turn up somewhere in the vicinity. I think the impound cost for Tracy's Pathfinder was around $186. Don't forget to take a flathead screwdriver with you if the ignition is toast....

The ignition isn't toast, I am sure. The only reason they got it is because I came home late after my daughters softball game and I forgot to take my extra key back in the house. My daughter had used my extra key to get her stuff out of it, and when I picked her up I left the key in the console.

The tow company says it looks operable. I think the only reason they found it is that the tabs are expired now.

Funny thing is, I mentioned it to my daughter tonight. When I told her where they found it she said " I knew that was your land rover".

Come to find out, her and her mother were searching for fans during the last hot spell and she thought she saw it at that very Walmart, but her mom was in to much of a hurry to turn around and look. I could have had my car back 2 weeks ago.

Gotta love ex wives..

Well that's cool if nothing is broken. I don't have an ex-wife, so I'll just have to imagine Dad's 3rd and current wife in my head...it's about the same thing.

On another note, anything doing on the 496? I see you post in the Bench Racing and Current Events forums frequently...pretty entertaining at times.

Lack of work in the construction part of the economy is putting that on the back burner. It looks good on the stand though. :D

I was actually thinking of putting it up for sale a couple months ago, but then I thought about it and realized it doesn't cost anything sitting there. I am only about one good job away from finishing it. I only need carb, pan, water pump and ignition and I could at least hear it run.

Between getting the kids ready for school and their Softball/baseball fees, It's hard to justify spending the money right now.

Yeah, I hear you on the lack of construction work...I'm in the same boat. Hopefully the jobs that I hear are lined up and guaranteed will start sometime in the near future. I'm starting to get bored....maybe I need another hobby that actually pays something instead of taking money. Maybe I'll take some TIG welding classes this fall, that'd be fun.

I keep looking at that 454 block sitting against the wall in the garage looking all lonely....actually had a staring contest with it today for about 5 minutes. Too bad I need a stronger rear differential and racing transmission first before I start that big-inch BBC endeavor.

If you have access to a TIG machine, I can show you the ropes on that. Years ago, I got a job at Klein bicycles in Chehalis welding frames with TIG. I was only 19. It's been a while since I've been on the peddle, but it wouldn't take me long to remember.

That'd be really cool learning from a fellow TCNW'er, but I don't know anyone(or myself) with a TIG machine for free usage....was looking at getting one before I got my MIG machine but the cost was pretty high. Around $3k and up. Hmm, I haven't looked for one lately...could be some listed for cheap soon(or now!). Getting certified would probably be a good idea also....

Great to hear about the vehicle.
Send update once you get it.

Well, it's not completely thrashed. There are clothes, used condoms, a stolen stereo and a bunch of bottles of pills in it.

I have a call in to the officer who recovered it and I will give him all the information that they left in there. There was a parking ticket for another vehicle that I found under the seat after they stole it. Maybe that will turn into a lead.

The unfortunate part is I can't afford to replace my daughters softball gear right now. I was really hoping that they wouldn't do anything with that. Honestly, what does a thief need a composite softball bat and a size six girls cleats for?

I am happy to have it back, but I am still a little bummed after pricing a new ignition tumbler, door tumbler and two new keys at $205 each. It's going to cost me about $1500 just to get the thing so they can't steal it twice.

Oh, and add in the price of a new shotgun to that. I am gonna pop the next person who snoops around my house.

What's up with your insurance ? I would think all of the problems would be covered, unless you mentioned that the key was left in it ! :clonk:
Glad you got it back.

I only had liability on it. No insurance help. That will change.

Yes, there was an extra key in the console that I forgot to take out. Looks like the just used it to drive around, party and steal more stuff.

Hey Kyle, you can borrow one of my shotguns for a while if you don't want to put out the money for one right now. Might help you a little bit financially and you can save up for one over a bit of time and then just get it back to me whenever

Do you have any experience with guns?

Sell the stereo and pills. That should get you close the the cost of the locks...:D JK.

Glad to hear you got it back in basically one piece.. $1500's not bad considering..

I grew up on a farm in the country. Just because I don't own any now, doesn't mean I have no experience. Thanks for the offer.

I always ask if I don't know what experience somebody has. The offer is there if you want it. Sounds like you took offense to my asking you, which I meant none by it. Like I said, I always ask when I don't know what somebody's experience is, especially when it comes to something such as guns.

Would it work out better to just take the insurance value and not bother with this one? Maybe I missed where this was covered before?

It's ok Mike. I only had liability on it, no comprehensive. It's worth about 5k, and it's paid off, so I can fix it a lot cheaper than I can replace it. I will fix it, I'm just really frustrated with the whole situation. It was gone long enough that I pretty much had given up on the idea of it returning. Then I get it back and while I should be relieved, it is a total PITA. The tow bill really had me going today.

Tow it 12 blocks keep it overnight and that is worth $350? I am definitely in the wrong business.

Chad, no offense taken. :beers:

I appreciate the offer, but shotguns are cheap around here. I have a couple buddies that offered me theirs.
