is there any advantage to the 7/8 center link over the 13/16? i am replacing entire suspension including center link and idler arm. if i have a 13/16 can i replace it with a 7/8 if i replace the idler arm?

Don't see where that 1/16 would make much difference. It's not a sway bar and either one would be bigger than the tierods connected to it.
