(I moved this from Preformence, probably belongs here, Sorry)

With the new 12 bolt rear that is.

Swapped out the open 10 bolt and had a 12 bolt built up with new eaton posi, 3.73 Richmond gears and superior axels.

Broke in the rear as per manufacters instructions.
Just went out to a back road (hard to find in Jersey !!) and let her EAT !!

Only thing I noticed was some mild wheel hop. heard this can get real ugly in Chevelles.

I have short 24" tires P225/65 I believe.
I will be getting taller and wider ones soon,

1) because these have dry rot in the side walls and 2) would like to lower the RPM slightly.
Also what size tires would you guys recommened?

Tires, Would this help or hurt wheel hop?

What else could be done to control this?
I heard ladder bars work but the car rides stiff. I don't drive this car far or long so that may not be a concern.
I saw those hitchcock adjustable upper and lower arms but they seem a little steep.$$

Any thoughts?

Sorry still thinking of that 2 legged burnout!!!!!

P.S. how soon does the gear oil need to be changed after break-in, if at all?

If you want to keep the tires all the same size, you could run a 235 60 15. I am running 275 60 15 on the rear which are 28" tall and 215 65 15 on the front which are 26.5" tall. I run the Hotchkis rear suspension with a stock sway bar on my 70 and have no wheel hop issues whatsoever.

Blue,
can't I just run 275 all the way around with 60's in the back and narrower in the front? I hav'nt started tire shopping yet and don't know what width's and all they come in.

I don't really want to raise the car up in the back end.

Thanks

275 is your width in milimeters, that does not change. Your section width does. That is the second number on the tire size (75 70 65 60, etc). That is what designates the overall height of a tire. It is a percentage of the tread width (275 255 235, etc). If you put 275 60 15 all the way around, you may end up with rubbing issues on the front. I have 235 70 15 on my 69 Cutlass and they rub whenever I turn the wheel to lock.
Something decent in the 70 series is 225 70 15 (27.4" tall, 7.4 tread width)
the 60 series you have 235 60 15 (26.1" tall, 7.7 tread width)
255 60 15 (27.1" tall, 8.3" tread width)

It all depends on how you want to drive it. The wider the tire, the more stable it will be.

WOW I thought 50,60,70 was the width of the tire.
Shows how much I know about tire sizes, which ain't much to begin with.

So If I went with 275/60/15 in the back, what number would I need for the front and not get too much lower, BUT not have any clearence issues either, The 225 70 15's ??

Heard you went to CB04? See you made it back to Franklinville.
Ran into a guy from Conectiv that said he know's you, Ken McHalla (like the chain saw)

one other thing, I have 15X8 rims up front and 15X10 on the back.

OK, first thing first, since you have different size rims, I take it you are not worried about rotating the tires. I don't bother with that on the 2 chevelles either. For the 15 x 8 rims, go with the 225 70 15, they fit pretty well on a 8" rim. For the 15 x 10 rims go with the 275 60 15. This way your front tires will be .6" shorter than the rears. A good rule of thumb I heard is to pick a tire in which the tread width is the same or as close as possible to your rim width.
I am running 275 60 15 on the back and 215 65 15 on the front. The front end on mine is a little lower than I would like it to be, but I think my problem is in the springs.

I am running the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 series. The superceeded the Firehawk SS20 series. I was very pleased with them. They grabbed well and wore nicely. I have no complaints about them at all. I got them from a tire guy I have been dealing with for a few years now in Vineland, Ed Costante.
