: refresh my memory on G body spindles

With the prices of disk brake stuff getting up there and parts cars getting harder to find, I am wondering if the monte SS G body spindles would work on a chevelle. I dont care about big brakes, just want disks on everything and if I can use these I will since I have a set. Are these considered tall spindles that would need offset upper shafts, and/or need machining of the lower balljoints..or is the geometry totally off so that they shouldnt be considered?

I know for sure they are the shorter design. You need the modified upper arms to use them on the B-Body spindles.

Do a search, you should be able to find a answer.

Dave They do not require a different upper control arm but you will need to use the G body upper ball joint and it will bolt on the control arm. The lower ball joint will have to turned down to fit the control arm (same part as the tall spindle swap). Use either a G body or F body outer tie rod end depending on the thread diameter of your tie rod. The steering arm is a little longer on the G body spindle so if your car is lowered check the clearance between the idler arm and the tie rod at full suspension compression.
You will soon hear from those who think these brakes are totally inadequate to stop a Chevelle, but in my opinion they are better than the factory drums.

thanks Philip, thats the info I needed. I have parted out a few monte SS cars and have found a couple more cheap, so I am considering using their disk brakes for A body stuff and saving my earlier factory stuff for my F and X body cars since nothing else will work with them. I have a 65 F85 and a 68 chevelle that currently need disk brakes and I dont think they are that much heavier than the monte, and I agree that they will be better than drums....actually now that I think about it (rotors also have metric studs) I think I will just machine the drum spindles and see if I can make the caliper brackets. Probably the same amount of work involved either way.

they weigh just about the same. I have never had any problems stopping either one of my G body cars.

Ever run across a 8.5" posi rear in one of your travels I could use it for my Regal. I plan on replacing the 3.8L turbo with a Olds V-8.

Philip,
no 8.5s as I have never had the olds G body or a GN. I seem to find plenty of ratted out and basically ruined 85 up monte SSs which have the 7.5...but have 3:73 gears so the rear is an ok one to use with a mild small block. I am thinking of putting leaf perches on one and trying it in a nova or camaro, just gotta see how wide they are.
