So I took advantage of the promo sale on the Rushforth wheels the site is having. My wife and I went down to Driverz (http://www.driverzinc.com/) Inc in Corona and had a talk with Jon Henson.

This is what we came to. 19x8 front w/ 5" backspace and 20x10 Rear w/5.75 backspace. Rushforth Whiplash in brushed center, and Polished lip. The rear lip 4" wide and the front is 3". All stock suspension w/ Eichbach lowering springs.

Some teaser shots!

Yeah I was a bit hesitant on finish color. The car color is a lexus dark charcoal(smokey granite mica). All of the cars with this color have either the stock silver wheels or matte black finished aftermarket wheels. I figured it would look pretty sweet with the matte black finish, but after comparing the color against the car it was obvious it wasn't going to work. The VElle has way too much chrome to pull off the stealth flat black look! So I went with the brushed center and Polished LIp! I hope I wont regret it!

why not a 305/35/20? same sidewall height (305/35=4.2 and 275/40=4.3), but the 305's are just wider. you might be stretching the 305 a little with the 10" wheel, but its worth it.

I would then have to roll the fenders, which i did not want to do! Jon was talking about heating the paint and then having a tool roll it. Didn't sound like a good idea to me. Is it that much more significant?

significant in looks, but probably wouldnt be noticed too much in handling. its over 1" wider, so i would do it.

does jon have a set of 305's to test fit?

if you cant get it dropped enough to make it look right with the 305's, i would stick with the 275's. the stance will make or break the look of the 20's.

He's out sick with the flu so hopefully he is back tomorrow. I have a few questions to ask him, and i wanna change the finish of the wheel to be more like this 65 Mustang.

I am currently running all stock suspension other then a set of Eibach lowering springs 1.3 inch drop all the way around. I might have to take a trip down there again and get test fitted for some 305's. The stance is everything!

Thanks Tim for bringing these to my attention!

Looks like we nailed your fitment Vince!?

You are going to like those Nitto NT05s.

Check and make sure you put Lefts on the Lefts, and Rights on the Rights. I think this rear one is wrong:

I think the fitment is nice too. I hate it when wheels have the sunken in look compared to the body.

Nice, but I think it would look better with a little less diameter wheel and a little more sidewall on the tires (especially the rear). Slightly lower all the way around too. I like the wheel style.

Went to LA today for a physical, and dropped by OPG to pick up some rear springs. The general plan was to order both the 2" and 3" and compare the difference. Since the 2" were out of stock I just picked up the 3" and installed them right when I got home. So I now have a set of Eibach 1.3" Rear lowering springs for sale if anyone is interested, PM me.

Heres the difference: 1" springs compared to the 3"

you said that you "think" it will rub with the front 1" lower. stop whining until it "does" rub. jk, but at least give it a shot. it almost has a reverse rake now. the rear looks sick though.

I say drop it one more inch in the front and you've have the perfect stance for that wheel size. The car looks great and that's probably the only style of large diameter wheels I like on a Chevelle. I really like that color too.

This is the first Chevelle that has caught my eye with large wheels on her. You have done a great job so far, keep up the good work.

70chevelle406
Sep 26th, 09, 4:42 PM
I am sure I can drop the front another inch, I then would not be able to turn the wheels without it rubbing on my inner fenders. I will look into it, but I am happy with the way it sits now.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I think the front needs to be dropped more also to get "The Stance" otherwise...Mehhh, it's not quite there to me. Hope you don't mind the constructive criticism. And IF it did rub, where do you anticipate it rubbing? There might be measures to correct it.

Have you changed out the hex head fasteners on the inner fenders to button heads? That will help quite a bit. With that front wheel/backspace combo, you should be able to drop the front down some more without interference concerns.

Also, I can't remember what color it was but I went to a car show last weekend and saw the exact same wheels on a 70 chevelle. Was that your car (I see you're in San Diego, the show was in temecula)?
