: 69 booster question, Do I need it?

I've gathered up all the front dics parts from a 71 Monte to install on my front drum 69 Chevelle.

Three questions:

1) Is with a BB and tall valve covers, if I don't have the clearence for the booster can I use a non power master cylinder and still have good brakes? I'm sure braking will be much improved over 4 wheel non power drums.

2) Can I use the proprotion valve that came with the power brake set up, and where does it mount, frame or up near the master? (Headers are really close to the exsisting distibution block on frame and the proportion seems thicker  )

And

3) Should I eliminate the exsisting distribution block that is currently mounted on the frame and being used w/the drum set up, or should I utilize it by running the new lines from the proportion valve so I don't have to spilce or extend those lines? Answer to question 2 may help answer this one

Never did this before and want to do it correctly. ;)

hi,
answers in order;
1. yes you will just have to press the pedle a little harder.
2. yes, you need to use it wether you go power or not. it mounts on the frame. however you can relocate it to up under the master cylinder if you wanted.
3. do not use the one that is already on your frame from the drum set up.

hope it helps ;)

Harry,
I know its all out there. I recently typed a ton on the differences between the drum and disk brake setups, early two piece and later one piece proportioning valve info. Others here have pages of info on manual disk setups with real good info on what masters to use for max pedal feel and response. As far as tall valve covers clearing a factory booster so far all mine have.

Drop top,
I NEVER said it wasn't out there. What I said was I only found partial anwsers to some of my questions, and that I wasn't too good at some of this computer stuff.

I do know that if I don't type in the subject exactly or mis-spell a word it won't come up on a search.
Aren't that what these discussion boards are for or do we not need them and just search the archives???

I'm not asking for anyone to do the leg work for me, just wind me up and point me in the right direction

Thanks to all who chimed in,
and to you to drop top graemlins/waving.gif
