: questions about Frankenmuth Show.....

I have questions, hopefully you show veterans have answers...

1. How close is the trailer parking to the show area?

2. Do you leave your car there overnight?

3. If yes, is there security patrolling?

4. Anyone need a roommate for the weekend??? :D

Thanks,

TDW

1. Trailers are parked in a field across the entrance road from the park. Not too far at all. If you were to park your car in the area next to the trailer field, it would only be a few hundred feet.
2. Yes, lots of the cars are there all night.
3. They have some of the local club members walking around after everything shuts down. I have never heard of anyones stuff getting messed with.
4. Nope, not me.

Tony pretty much covered it!

As you come in the entrance to the park you'll see the trailer parking on the right. This is a field so park wisely if the weatherman decides to not play nice that weekend.

I always throw a cover in as well. It can get pretty dewy down there and it helps with keeping the car clean. We have a "camp" where we leave coolers, chairs, and other items right there with the cars. Been going for 9 years and never had an issue.

Good luck finding a room. It usually books up very early. This year could be different with the economic downturn :(

I may end up judging one of the "classes" this year. Hope to find out soon :)

I am seriously contemplating this show, my brother and nephew live near by. Is it the weekend after labor day?

John, if I make it, it would be great to meet you and of course all the Tc'ers!:)

If you guys make it to the show, look for a 55 Nomad, Gasser style, black, that has "The Mad Gasser" lettering on it. That will be mine. I look like a big version of Charle Manson.

11th, 12th, and 13th. Most TC members have TC plates on the front or TC window sticker somewhere on the car. Keep a look out. Brian Henderson and I have had the same spots for the last 3 years. Ric joined us 2 years and last year. Tony joined us as well last year. First spots at the back corner of the Bavarian Inn. Hopefully we can all get together again this year.

Most people that stay overnight leave their cars in the park. Like John said, no problems. They have portable pole lighting and there are always people walking around, even in the middle of the night.

Wish I could help with a room Dave. We have my wife, son and I already and Ray Barnes thinks we should let him and his brother camp there too! There are people that sleep right there in the park. In there car, under a tent, what ever. Check out hotels near Birch Run, it's 15 minutes away and closest rooms you're likely to find. Probably too late though unless the economy keeps people away, there are over 3,000 cars registered already.

I booked a room at the Flint Sleep Inn, gets me my points towards my platinum club status. :D 26 miles away, that's not bad, unless the traffic is killer getting into the show area on Sat. & Sun.
What kind of backup is there on Friday, to get in and unload the car? How early would I have to get there on Friday to park wich youse guys??? :D

Heres a link for lodging in and around the area.

Something to consider, there are always cancellations, so if you want to be closer to the action, I would start calling a few of these places. Its important to be persistent. If you find a place you want ot stay at, it doesn't hurt to call them at least once a week. This will show that you are serious about staying there.
I've never had any problems getting a room.

If you go to this awesome show once.....you'll be hooked.
It's a great show! Hope to see you there!:beers:

Dave, we try to be there 7:30 > 8:00. Some people will have been camped out all night because they want some of the more popular parking spots. Brian and I haven't had a problem the last 3 years getting the spots we had. There'll be a lot of people there Friday but the park is big.

Last year was a nightmare getting in or out of the park Saturday night. Hopefully Country Street Machines, local club, does traffic control this year. Police decided they would do it last year and they really f'd it up. Years before was never a problem.

Register on line if you still can. It will save you a lot of time Friday morning when they open up. Everyone has to file through the Chrysler dealer first. If you already registered they pull it up and hand you your bag of goodies, car sticker and wrist bands and you're out of there.

Really? We cruised downtown but didn't see the ticket writing. Then ran into the mess when we tried to get back into the park. It was a free for all, absolutely no traffic control at all. I eventually parked the car behind the pavillion and we hiked over to the inn. Went back later when things cleared and moved the car to our spot.

Dave...Noon should be a good time to get there. Depending on who is there already, they can space the cars out a little and save a spot that way.

Dave...Noon should be a good time to get there. Depending on who is there already, they can space the cars out a little and save a spot that way.

That's what we've done in the past. The trick is to get a few cars in, parked sort of spaced apart. Start setting up tents, chairs etc. Then as others arrive later you can move cars closer together. One year we were able to get 11 cars all parked together this way :D

Our camp will only be two or three cars this year :( The chevelle is gone :( But I'm pretty sure we'll have a interesting car in the group. A Pro Street Pacer with a 700hp LS motor to move it along

Question for you guys who pre-registered. INn the past when I've done this, my car # will come back say number 1650 something or 1200 something. Always assumed that this was the actual number of cars that have pre-registered. Which makes sense since they get about 2500 cars total. Well two of my friends did this again this year and there car number was up in the 4000's??! I wonder if this show has really taken off in the number of people participating??? For the almost 10 years I've been a part of it, it's always been in the low to mid 2000's total....

I plan on being up there early on Friday..Hank maybe we can caravan up on Friday morning.

I will be taking my daily driver up on Thursday Night as I will have to come back Friday afternoon and take my Daughters Horse out to Owosso for a horse show that she will be at all weekend (Can't get my wife to pull the horse trailer ) and get a ride back up on Saturday morning (and I'm expecting my car to be all wiped down and ready to show again this year by the time I get there).

Lynda says she'll make some pasta salad and some kind of desert. She already packed the napkins, paper plates, salt and pepper, plastic dinner ware. Guess I better go check the propane supply and get a few tarps. Ric is bringing his Chevelle tent too. We'll put them together and set up camp. If we do get a little rain we can sit and eat and drink all day. Anybody else interested we could use mustard and ketchup, chips, nachos, salsa or whatever you like.

We have a folding table my son can bring up in the truck. I could use some volunteers to help haul the grill, 20lb tank and table from the parking lot because they won't fit in the Chevelle. Not with our luggage and coolers.

You're spending a lot of time on TC today, must be raining there too. That sounds great Tony. The grill is 'portable', has wheels but rolling it over the grass and down the hills would not be fun. If you have the room why don't you bring the table, we'll bring ours but it's not that big. We can always try and shift our location a little to get more room for canopies, a little closer to the bridge is pretty good. Plus we'll get away from that speaker on the corner.

Filled up the Chevelle today in between the rain showers. Plenty of propane, I'll stop by ACE tomorrow and get a couple of tarps.

Hey Bruce...Can you ask the people that you know why is it we have to stand in line when we are pre-registered? It seems like they could mail us our entry stickers. That way we could just drive in and park instead of standing and sitting in line forever. Just wondering.

The guy who owns the McDonald's is one of the organizers of the show. Some of the nicer cars from the show are usually there. Year before last Dick LaHaie The NHRA top fuel driver & tuner was there with his woody wagon. If anybody needs a place to stash their tow rig for the weekend I live about 6 miles northwest of the town a ten minute drive. I have an empty lot next to my place plenty of room for a few tow rigs. quiet country area nobody messes with anything. So if you want a place to drop your rig and just drive your car back into town PM me and i will give you directions.

Ric made a sign for us and some Team Chevelle "I'm out cruising" signs for holding your spots. I'm thinking we're going to have a great weekend. Really looking forward to this guys, see you all tomorrow. :beers:

Hey Mike,
Glad to hear you made it to Frankenmuth!
Did you stop by the "Team Chevelle" camp and say Hi?:hurray:
We were right behind the Bavarian Inn. There was a row of canopies, two of them were black "Chevelle" canopies.
The weather was simply awesome!

The weather was perfect, a slow start on Friday but the placed filled up on Saturday. We had Ray, Ric, Tony, Brian, Dave and myself from TC. We also had John with his 69 Chevelle and Mike with a Henry J in the group.

Got to spend the weekend with a lot of good people and see a lot of good cars. I have a few pics of the group I'll post later. Also, I found a small blue nylon bag on the ground last night. Too small for a chair, less than 2 feet long. Tony, is it for one of your little blue - what were those anyway? Kathy, AKA Tony's Phone, said it was safe for me to sit on but I wasn't in the mood for a colonoscopy at the time.

Yep, best weather I can remember up there. I had a good time, wife had a good time. Putting the canopies together was a good plan. I missed when everyone, except Hank and Lynda, pulled out. Mabey see you guys next year.
That blue bag is to hook on the GOOD chairs we had Hank. Company gets the small rickety ones that are scary to sit on. They don't stay long that way.

I had a great time. Thanks to all for the hospitality. It was nice with the tents to have somewhere out of the sun to sit. I got home about 1pm, it was a nice leisurely drive home.

Hey, all you had to do was say go away! Kathy didn't have to try and make me sit on that thing. I'll slide the beers you left in my cooler into that bag, along with some ice, maybe a few smokes and send it to you. :D

Send me your address or I'll get it back to you some other time.

Nah Hank, you were a part of the group, not a guest. The guests I am refering too are those guys that told me everything about MY own car. How I shoulda did the chassis different, a " 427 aint as goot as a 305 punched out", "it aint no Gasser ifn it aint got no willy bars" kind of guys. And the dozen or so that said they had a Nomad they sold for 600 bucks.
Hang onto the bag, Kathy says we only had one and it's here. She thinks it's funny to see people trying to sit on those damn chairs. Kinda got a sicko streak or something. I guess you could send me some smokes though. A case of Winstons, please. Throw a bottle of 2 of "grape crush" in there too! Hope you had a good trip home.
Dave, real nice car you have. Seen lots of lookers at it. Good luck with your shop, hope to see ya next year too.

I was going to point out a few of those issues with your car but I knew you were 'packing'.

It was a great weekend and I'm glad that everyone showed up....I'm just sorry I did not get to be there Friday night for the big party...but daughter and horse came first per wife.

It was a slow ride home following Ray, we did not get over 60...but that was for the best anyway. I did change his route a little bit as he had it mapped to take Dort Hwy all the way to Steward to get on 475. As Tony knows, that is not the area you want to be in at 9:30 at night with your windows down. We ended up taking Clio rd all the way to 475 instead.

Maybe we can get more people next year....5 tents together this year...lets shoot for 8 next year.

Also, I think we all need to thank Ray for being security guard and sleeping under the tents and watching our cars all night. I know I slept better knowing he was on guard....ha.

Was he joking about using Tony's Mad Gaser for a little private place for one of the car groupies there that night? ha

Dave, I'll be in Auburn all week and some of next week, I'd like to come over and see your new shop if you'll be around.
